Full Liquids to Pureed – ideas please?!

Recommended Posts

I’m coming up on my 2 wks post op, going from full liquids to pureed foods and looking for tasty food ideas. I have eaten Beans smashed up already, does the pureed food truly need to pureed to baby food consistency?

I made mashed potatoes, butternut squash, and reallllly soft carrots today. I'm hoping to use these over the next few days so I don't get sick of refried Beans. I also like Laughing Cow cheese wedges with Tomato Soup.< /p>

Avoid the pureed starches like potatoes because they will take up space in your wee stomach that needs to be filled with Protein. Seriously, everything you eat right now needs to have a high Protein content! The veggies of course will taste great and satisfy that head hunger, but they are not giving you what you need nutritionally right now.

I ate some refried Beans, but I also pureed roast chicken thighs (skinless; 1/3 cup Water for every 2/3 cup cut up chicken will give you a nice consistency), Underwood canned meats that are already puree consistency, pureed tuna salad made with low-fat mayo, and tons of yogurt. Don't even bother with baby food from the jar..its really disgusting! You can also eat cottage cheese right now if its small curd.

Yes, everything does need to be smooth, with the exception of baked fish because you can chew that enough to puree it in your mouth. Hope this helps!

Protein, Protein, Protein! Everything you knew about how good veggies were for you is NOW out the window at this stage of your life, now that you sport a VGS.

I ate 2oz of FF cottage cheese and chewed it 30 times before swallowing small bits of it. Scrambled eggs and melted cheese was on my approved food list from my surgeon so I scrambled cheese in. Granted I could only (and still) eat ony 1/2 an egg but.... Do Not get the bright idea to make a meatloaf for family and puree some of it for yourself. #bad fail. #Ick Try Protein powder in FF Jello pudding. I use New Direction's products and they have a protein pudding that has 27 grams!

Good luck! For me this was the hardest part of the entire event!!!

I'm on my last couple of days of purees and the one thing that was my saving grace was chilli. It was the only food that once pureed was still delicious.

I made black bean Soup with chorizo and pureed it, and split pea soup.

I disagree with the 2 comments about not nutritionally needing fruits and veggies right now. They have nutritional benefits that your body needs and can't be gotten from a supplement. I agree of course that Protein is top priority, but I do think you should try to work them in when possible. I also am on the pureed stage and have fresh juiced veggies with Protein Powder, blended Soup with veggies with powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury broth powder (21gm pro) mixed in, smoothies with Protein powder, I have eaten jars of organic babyfood applesauce/bananas, and SF cheesecake pudding(made w/milk and can also add unflavored protein powder) with pureed strawberries on top. I may have 1 or 2 of those per day and try to eat more solid food, like cottage cheese, refried Beans, or pureed chicken. Even those often have a little veggies mixed in-refried Beans mixed with salsa and avocado, chicken with LF mayo, onion, peppers.

I can't have -per protocol, veggies and fruits until week 6. If you are eating your two oz of Protein, you won't have room for veggies yet. Stay away from cream Soups and any potatoes! High fat, too starchy, high calories. Give the new stomach time to heal. Be patient.

Blended cream Soups were on my full liquids list...but my NUT suggested phasing them out during the puree stage in preparation for no liquids with food. Egg beaters (or eggs) are my friend right now. I had my first yesterday, and although I only ate about 1/8 cup, it was sheer heaven to have something other than a shake. I'm planning to cook some chicken today to puree and possibly make a chicken salad-type mix out of (I saw someone suggest mixing guacamole in instead of mayo, which I'm thinking of trying). And the fat free refried Beans...I have a whole bunch of frozen packs of Beans in sauce that I'm planning to blenderize as well.

My NUT said baby food's okay...but one trip through and looking at the sugar content of some of them made me rethink it. I have a small food processor (certainly large enough for my needs, since I'm only able to eat tiny amounts).

(I tried meatballs my first night...I was making meatball subs for the rest of the family, and I made a batch of them out of ground chicken for myself, and mashed one into paste. It was not a good experience. The rest of the meatballs will remain in the freezer until I can better handle it. It tasted good...but not a single part of my insides agreed with it)

I love eggs, but after the surgery they just don't like me in return. I've tried egg beaters, scrambled, poached and hard boiled.... ALL versions gave me terrible heartburn. I was sooooo looking forward to them too. I don't like Mayo, so I mixed mine with guacamole or avocado and canned chicken by Tyson..... Excellent!!! You could even add a dash of taco season.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
