Hey everyone

So, I just got myself a new Trek bike. I realize I may have jumped the gun... Had my surgery only 8 days ago. I'm wondering how soon I might be able to use it?

PS - I'd be doing some moderate riding -- I live next to a boardwalk. No off-road mountain biking or anything.

I bought a Bike about a month before surgery. I can't wait to start riding again. neither can my 8yr old son. He asked me to go ride 2 days post op!

I love my Trek bike! I have the Navigator (or as I call it - the fatazz friendly bike) and it is so much fun to ride.

I could go back to biking 2 weeks after my surgery.

I am having surg. on the 25th. I am a fit fat guy. I exercise regularly and at a fairly high level i.e. I road my bike for approx 2 hours and climbed 2000 vertical feet on three separate occasions since monday... the only reason I am saying this is I am worried about getting back to this type/level of performance... I don't want to have to give up endurance sports... do I need to be worried

You won't have to give them up. You will need to take a break to recover from your surgery.

Most surgeons want you to allow your core to heal for 6 weeks. You might herniate your incisions.

There is a way more active bicycling thread on here. It's "Bycyling" or some such poorly spelled thing. There's lots of chatter on there but we are mostly road bikers.

Check it out.

Hey there, J! (OH Juli) I just saw you mention our humble little thread and thought I would give a link in case anyone wants to join our craziness!

(BTW...it is consistently THE most active exercise thread!)

It is a VERY acive thread...mostly chatter...and if your not in the click it is hard to get into the conversation. Not that they are not nice but I feel like the kid sitting on the edge trying to make friends and noone wants to talk to you. YEP that is me.

*sigh*

You're right, there IS a lot of chatter in there, but there's also TONS of great bike info. We love answering questions and offering support. Most folks in there are "roadies". (Ride road bikes.) I guess I was obnoxious enough to jump right in there and just participate! LOL Come in there and I'll introduce you, if you like. It's easier to get into the group than you think. Once Julie had given you an acronym, you're a shoe-in! LOL We all have one or two letter acronyms, we don't type out names. You would be a good CR or CN, maybe? I'm TX...and I can PM you a list of everyones initials. I taped a copy of it to my comp screen when I first joined the thread so I could keep everybody straight!

Yeah...I know who you are, silly! But I didn't think you'd been there often enough to know the drill and get a nickname yet, so I wanted to help out and get you in the groove with us! We are a fun group! A bit brash at times, for sure...but fun!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
