My port fipped over to the side so I was really scared when I got my first fill that I wouldnt get one. But they decided that after they took Xrays that since they could access it in a odd possition they would leave it alone (not do another surgery) and fill me anyway. I followed every rule to the T when I had my first fill but I have never had great restriction yet. The needle is scary looking if you dont like them so I just closed my eyes and didnt feel anything at all because they numb you. After its all over I usually have a small bruise where they put the needle in and sometimes its senstative.

During my first fill I ended up being poked several times, even with the fluoro---but he finally got it, and it wasn't that traumatic!!!

I was given 1.25 cc. and although I did not achieve optimum restriction, it did assure me that there was a working band in there!!! I was forced to slow down and chew small bites well. I was allowed a second fill a month later, and acheived good restriction with it.

The first fill was successful, it started me on the road, that is what it is for. Every journey begins with a first step-----that one step is likely not going to get you to your destination, but it brings you closer!

I had my first fill at 6 weeks and my second one at 9 months. Both kicked in immediately. My doc uses fluoroscopy which makes things easier, I think. The second fill, took a little longer to get the needle in because there was a fold of muscle in the way, but it was no big deal. I am shocked to see myself write that because I am terrified of needles and the one they use for fills is a big sucker. But I can’t see the needle or what the doc is doing and he numbs my tummy so I don’t feel anything except for a slight change in pressure when the needle pierces into the port.

My fill was really small. I think he put in .5 or 1 in my 10 band which holds 4.2. I wasn't as hungry initially but was back for a 2nd fill pretty quickly. I have had 5 fills in 10 months.

I have the smaller band that holds 4cc's. My 1st fill was on 4/2, 5 weeks post op and had 'Optimum Sweet Spot' restriction for 9-10 days and it has lessened HOWEVER, I am DEF still experiencing restriction. He put in 2.2 cc's and I am going back on 4/23. Honsetly I see saw back and forth on whether or not he will be putting in more or not. I would like to get back to the tighter restriction of the 1st 9 days but can tell it won't take much. I am restricted the most in the a.m. and gradually it loosens up by the end of the day, however, I am still restricted. I have to be REALLY careful on the size bites I take. Just tonight I took to large a bit of chicken breast.. chewed the bejezus out of it and sonuvabeeatch it hurt going down.. because the size of what I put in my mouth was TO BIG. I will learn eventually I reckon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
