Are you asking if there will be trouble getting approved because you have depression? Or that you're feeling depressed over having surgery?

You'll see lots of people on the board who have depression and are either approved for or have had the surgery. I am treated for depression and haven't had any issues getting approved (except the psych took FOREVER to send over his clearance letter).

Aygad,

I have struggled with depression. My Dr. had me do a mental health evaluation before surgery. Best thing ever. I'm off a lot of medication and could not be happier. I've been drugged up for years. Now colors are brighter, I'm actually happy. You never know where this Journey will take you. I'm looking forward to the future now. Can't believe this is me. I'm so thankful.

Jenn

I was depressed for years with my weight and other issues. Immediately after surgery (first day) I went thru some serious buyers remorse. Then it started getting better and better. I started exercising more rigorously and decided to wean off my two meds. One I did by myself and the other I contacted my family Doc about. That was months ago. I'm 9 months post-op and couldn't feel better. Best thing to happen to me besides getting married!

Everyone is different. When you are on liquid and purees, yes you are going to miss food. I couldn't watch people eat and for some reason the smell of ham made me want to cry. Which seems funny now.

Once you get to the solid phase you probably won't miss much. Sometimes I miss sushi but I'm afraid to eat it yet. I also don't know how the rice will go down. Maybe when I'm further out or I can just have sashimi without the rice.

I go to fast food places and I really have no desire to eat anything there. I have salad and can barely eat any of it.

I would say the first few months are very hard but some people just seem to have no issues.

I think I miss having a drink on the weekends more but even that is going away. I just love losing weight more than food or alcohol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
