komi31 6 Posted May 29, 2014 to my understanding I feel people do this surgery to lose weight and correct other medical conditions like daibities or blood pressure etc etc.... but the only reason I wanna do this surgery is to lose weight ... I don't have any kinda medical condition I weight 219 lbs currently ... and have been overweight since my childhood ... is it really worth doin this surgery if u don't have any medical conditions ???? Sleeveless in seattle 208 Posted May 29, 2014 In my opinion, it depends on how overweight you are. I have no medical conditions caused by my weight but I was 347 lbs and 5'7". Not healthy! Eventually it would have caused medical problems so I paid for my own surgery to curtail that. My insurance doesn't pay for any wls unfortunately so I have a 5 yr loan but will hopefully add many more years to my life. I'm excited to see what the future holds as I continue to lose, I am already way more active with my kids and husband. 1 DarbiMolly reacted to this
woo woo 872 Posted May 29, 2014 The older you get, the more likely that the weight will start to cause health problems. If you are still young, there is a chance that health problems will develop for you later in life. There is also a chance that you could get bigger over time too. They say obesity is a progressive disease. It's really up to you and depends upon how you feel. One thing you can ask yourself is how much is my weight interfering with my life now? That might bring you closer to an answer as to whether it's worth it to you. If you really aren't sure, it may be better to wait rather than rush into anything. Healthy_life2 8,324 Posted May 29, 2014 Research get's addicting pre op, I went to my pre op class and a lot of the other sleever's were so young. Go them! Obesity is a disease. It dose progress. You might not have health issues now. But what about in the long term? Yes, its a serious choice. I would not tell anyone what they should or should not do. Dig in and enjoy your research! wishing you the best! Jenn

NothingUpMySleeve 244 Posted May 29, 2014 I went from a size 14 to a size 6. No real co morbidity but diabetes runs in my family. My blood pressure and liver enzymes are great now, and I feel so much more confident
