I haven't had surgery and yes I think of things. Not the surgery itself, just adjusting to life after. I'm hoping and praying I'm not one to get nauseous a lot and I have good mental thoughts along the way.

A leap of faith can be scary. Having had surgery I can testify its not something to be scared about. Its great to educate ones self, but seriously spend less time on this site. I feel it makes one over think and adds fear. Thats myy opionion. In stead spend your time on selecting the best surgeon and staff. This has gone very well for me.

Oh course ! All things are going to weigh on your mind. What if, what did I do, did I do the right thing, will I ever be able to eat "normal" again, what if I don't wake up, blood clots? You name it , it went though my mind, personally I feel this app is great it gives you the ins and out on everything good and bad ! Please educate yourself besides using this site. Maybe attend support groups prior to your surgery. This is the best thing I've ever done for myself. Good luck to you on your journey !

Conversely, I was delighted to find this site a few weeks prior to having my surgery. It allayed so many of my fears and doubts and really helped me with the emotions I was having. The positives so vastly outweighed the negatives, and I went into the hospital with head held high and start living my life :)

Even the few people on here who had complications were generally very positive about the whole experience.

It's perfectly normal, I almost chickened out at the last minute, but then I thought I don't want to keep living in a size xxl clothing that was getting tight and being tired all the time, from that day on I tried to stay positive, and cut out saying certain words like "can't" or "only". Being 4 months out my only regret is is that I didn't do this sooner, I have so much more energy and love being outdoors spending time with family and friends.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
