Shiner86 60 Posted May 29, 2014 I did a lot of research on my surgeon and I really like him but I am only suppose to stay in the hospital for one night. Surgery is 9:30am on June 11th and I get discharged the next day after a barium swallow to check for any leaks. Anyone else similar? Just starting to freak out a bit because I'm watching you tube videos of people who stayed in for 3 days. Anyone with a similar experience that could put my mind at ease would be helpful!!! TonyaNKy 79 Posted May 29, 2014 I went in Wednesday, May 21st and had my surgery at 11:24am. I was discharged at 7:30pm Thursday. If you're walking and using your spirometer and doing good, they send you home. It's been a week today and I feel great! 1 Gr8fulMiniMe reacted to this

Mishka85 7 Posted May 29, 2014 I had my surgery at 7am on a Friday and was home by 6pm on Saturday. As long as you are taking liquids well and didn't have any complications there's no need for a longer hospital stay. Just make sure to walk as much as possible and remember the nurses are your friends.... even when they have to wake you up every couple of hours. (they are also the ones who bring pain medication if needed haha)
finallyfree101 39 Posted June 8, 2014 How was the first couple of days home?
Luvin_Life125 558 Posted June 8, 2014 I would love to go home the same day, but I am worried about dehydration post op. I drink a lot of Water normally. Being water restricted will really suck!
TonyaNKy 79 Posted June 8, 2014 As soon as I woke up they had a cup of ice Water for me and I could have as much as I wanted. I don't know why you're on water restriction.
Luvin_Life125 558 Posted June 8, 2014 Sorry I didn't mean they would be restricting Water. I meant not being physically able to drink enough fluids to keep from being dehydrated.
