How long was it between the time you started the process and actual surgery?

I went to the informational seminar in August, had to jump through a bunch of hoops and finally had my surgery in late April. It cost $500 plus the copays for various doctors visits. All told, about $750.

I have Cigna which required 6 months of nutrition and weight loss counseling. After all the hoops were jumped through, my surgery date was set at June 11 which will be 8 and a half months from the start. I've already met my out of pocket maximum for the year so the surgery will be completely covered.

I looked into surgery in mid october. Met with the doc the beginning of november and was sleeved on dec 18th. So it was about 6 weeks from the start and my ins covered it. I have spent about $700.00 out of pocket for copays and a few blood works that werent covered.

Hello all! I have to do a 6-month supervised diet and exercise program (ill be finished Aug 29th) (Aetnas requirements) and then after that ill submit my paperwork and hopefully get an approval within 3-4 wks (hopefully sooner). Its a struggle sometimes but it gets easier..... my last weigh in cant be more than the first weigh in.... so I have no doubt that ill do well and complete this program successfully so that I can have surgery.

I started looking into this last November and had my first of six required medically supervised weight loss visits, which I hated at first but really allowed me to educate myself on the surgery and be more mentally prepared. My surgery was 5 days ago, May 29, and it feels like it took forever but I'm here now.

I started the process in November 2013 with a visit to my doctor. Paperwork in December, bloodwork in January, then 6 weeks of pre-surgery classes, including a few counseling sessions. To be fair, they would have put me in the class that started late February, but I had to go into March due to my work schedule and traveling. I was done with the class mid-April, and could have had the surgery in May (again had to postpone because of work schedule and traveling). BUT .... my surgery is scheduled for June 20. Very exciting. Basically 8 months (which is what they told me it would take). It is a lot faster than it used to be. I heard of people waiting 18 months before.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
