How soon after surgery can you fly in a plane? My daughters are going to stay at their grandparents house 3 states away while I have the surgery. Do you think I could fly to pick them up after only 3 weeks post surgery?

At three weeks you could probably flap your arms to fly there. You'll be fine, go ahead and fly the friendly skies. ;)

Because I had to attend a funeral I flew 1 week after my surgery. Just be careful lifting too much or pack in a few smaller suitcases to keep within lifting limits. You will fine. I checked with my doctor before I left and he was fine with my travel too .

I flew home 3 days after surgery.

As long as you are on track, that should not be a problem. It is amazing to me how I went from pain initially (not trying to scare anyone, just being honest) to waking up okay within a week.

Even now, remembering those first few days mess with me, but it really gets better fast! The intense awareness of my anatomy b/c it hurt with any movement was an experience! Apparently, not everyone even goes through this.

I emphasize on track only b/c I have no idea about complications, but by the time you get your family, you would know if you have issues.

I am flying to and from my surgery. I will fly about 4 days post-surgery. BUT, they make us wear compression hose. You may want to look into that.

My surgeon said I could forget it for a month and my pcp said she would not approve it for 6-8 weeks.

They're concerned of pulmonary embolisms

Hmm

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
