LumpySpacePrincess 594 Posted May 28, 2014 I know emotional mayhem is part of the post-op experience, but I didn't expect it this far out. Anyone else hit a major depression around 6 months or around 120 pounds lost??
kyleebean 209 Posted May 28, 2014 Interesting you posted this. I am 6 months out as of yesterday! I do suffer from chronic depression and anxiety. Meds have been successful at managing my moods. However, the past three weeks, I have been super irritable and crabby to my partner. Everything irritates me and I feel depressed. I have an appointment with my GP next month and will discuss it with her. Curious about other's experiences.

I'm wondering if it has to do with my fat loss picking back up again, and it being that time of month, but I'm not usually this irritable, depressed, and anxious even during PMS! All I can say is thank goodness for therapy! lol
ChavaBling 145 Posted June 1, 2014 I know depression and anxiety all too well and I'm sorry that you're going through this. This might make you unfriend me, but have you switched up your exercise routine lately? That can really get the endorphins going!! I am getting a little mopey 9 days out and I'd feel so much better if I could go hiking...doc wants me to wait 30 days.
LivingFree! 478 Posted June 1, 2014 I think depression is just another aspect of the WLS process that totally varies per individual. There really is no "predictable" time when or if you will experience depression. Although I also have a chronic depression diagnosis, it is mostly managable. Yet at 3 years post-op I am currently experiencing some new WLS-related emotions that have not previously surfaced. Probably the best rule of thumb for all of us is that if we are feeling prolonged depression that continues to affect our everyday routines, it is time to seek help. Often help is just in the form of talking with a therapist and/or being prescibed a short course of anti-depressant meds, or even something as simple as doing some meditation/visualization/deep breathing/relaxation exercises. Hope you feel back to what your "normal" is soon. Take care.
