Hello! Introducing myself GBS woman

Recommended Posts

I had RNY for one reason and one reason only: to get healthy. At 53 my health was severely compromised. I had uncontrolled type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease, sleep apnea, PCOS, anxiety, panic, depression and recently battled Guillane-Barre Disease(also called GBS). I am still struggling with the Guillane-Barre but I am doing so well I hardly count it. I couldn't walk or talk when I was full blown with it so now I am much better. I was on 5 medicines for diabetes including insulin and my Endocrinologist suggested RNY. After much thought, prayer and research I decided it was the right thing for me. I applied to insurance and after 6 months of doctor visits and NUT visits I was cleared. My rebirth date was March 3, 2014. Now the journey begins...I healed small so I have had 2 anastomotic strictures and resulting out patient procedures to fix. I am hoping that is all I will need. Ironically, I am a GBS woman times 2!

Sounds like you're doing well and seeing the results of the surgery you hoped for.

Best wishes!

Congratulations on taking control of your health! I'm happy that you're doing so much better with the GBS. My surgery was also in March and I know, at least for me, it was the best decision I've made in a very long time. I'm off my Rx meds and my pain levels are sooo much better. My fibromyalgia and arthritis pain have decreased and I'm able to be so much more active.

Good luck with your journey; I wish you much success and good health! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
