Do you want to meet more towards the end of the month to give you more time to recover? Right now I am not working so any time is good for me.

 Hi ladies! I just stumbled on here because someone on ObesityHelp.com mentioned lapbandtalk in their post. So nice to find some locals! I live in Oak Park.

I had my first consultation for the band in Jan 2006 with Dr. Shayani at Loyola and completed most of my preoperative testing then, too. I bought my first home and got caught up with life in general and didn't seek approval from my insurance company until the fall. After numerous appeals (never gave up), BCBSIL approved me at the end of June. The glitch? Dr. Shayani left Loyola for Day One Health (same day surgery center on Michigan Ave). I feel more comfortable having it done at Loyola so Dr. Sarker will be performing my surgery. I met with her yesterday and she said I could be banded as soon as next Thursday! Wow! I'm an elementary school teacher so the sooner I can have the surgery, the better. I'll keep you updated once I get a date.

I'd love to join you all for one of your Panera get-togethers. It would be nice to meet experienced bandsters in the area!

Amichelle, welcome. It's always nice to have a newcomer at our little get togethers. You are of course welcome. I had my lapband surgery 2 years ago, and live in Romeoville. I have a 6 year old daughter. I'm fairly close to goal. Tell us a bit about yourself.... ~Mandy

It's official, I'll be banded on Thursday, August 2nd at Loyola! I'm now on a 7 day liquid diet which is not fun!

Let's see, a little about myself... I'm 29, single, bought my first home (well, condo) last summer, like to read... I don't know what more to say about myself.

Any words of wisdom as I prepare for surgery?

amichelle, here is my lapband shopping list:

heating pad

flexible ice pack

liquid tylenol (they make adult strength)

chewable or liquid gas-x

a few books or movies

comfy clothes (loose waisted shorts or jumpers)

squishy pillow for car ride (guard against seatbelt)

a sports bra (doc said no underwire for a few days)

protien shakes

flavored water

make sure you have a good blender

I bought a drink mixer for the protien mix (cost $10 at walmart)

broth or stuff to make broth

sugarfree popsicles and Jello

sugar free gum (ask your doctor)

sugar free breathmints (ask your doctor)

*Ask at your pre-op for the pain med prescription so you can have it all ready to go when you get home, our walgreens has to order liquid pain meds and it takes 3 days to get them.

I am going to wish you well now. I will be just returning home from major surgery myself on wed evening and I don't want to forget. ~Mandy

Hi guys, I am just checking in from my hospital room. I did fine in surgery. I had a ton of pain yesterday but today is much much better. I will check in when I get home. The online service in the room is hard to use, kinda like web-tv. Just posting takes forever. ~Mandy

Hi, I am new to this site. I went to my primary today to start the referral process. I have to go to the dietician and psycologist now. My Dr. says it will probably be early 2008 when I am ready to go. I cant wait.

Lala, I am home now. Still very tired, but at least I am home. Dr. Lahmann decided to do a complete unfill after I was under sedation, so my band is totally open. I'm debating between getting filled now or after vacation. Right now I'm too tired and sore to go for a fill. I'll see how I feel in a week. How's everyone else? ~Mandy

Michelle ~ How are you doing since surgery.

Mandy ~ I hope you get your energy back soon.

BensonRN ~ Welcome

Mikesmom~ how are you doing since your surgery.

LaLa ~ Hello!

I have an interview in FL on Friday. They did a phone interview and want to do the face to face. The job is 15 minutes from my parents. Since they are getting older they were considering moving bak here in case something happened, because the rest of the family is up here. So if I get this job I will move in with them to help them out. I was told that when they fly you in they are 90% precent sure they are going to hire you. It is a really great opportunity, so I am hoping.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
