12 weeks out, and I can eat :(

Recommended Posts

I am 12 weeks out after my sleeve surgery:

My weight before preopdiet : 281

Day of surgery weight was:260

Current weight: 210

My issues is that I'm able to get food down! I goto support groups and hear people saying that they can't eat, and I'm totally the opposite, and feel like i can eat too much. I can get in anywhere form 1200-1400 calories a day.
I do exercise 4-5 day's a week, with 40 minutes of cardio and some strength training.

Everybody is saying i'm losing weight, but i'm just too concerned that I have stretched my sleeve, and I'm eating too much.

Anyone else out there with the same problem?

So what are you eating?

For Breakfast a Protein shake, for lunch usually some vegetable's or tofu.

For dinner, some lentils, and quinoa, and vegetable.

I usually snack on cheese, and fruits, like tangerines, watermelon's etc., nuts (Cashew's, peanuts)

Once in a while, if we are out I will eat like the cheese off a slice of pizza (avoiding the crust).

The further out you are from surgery, the more you'll find your restriction varies depending on what you're eating. A serving of chicken breast or a turkey meatball or two will fill me up and stave off hunger longer than a serving of greek yogurt or veggies, or cheese. Dense Protein is your friend. I don't see any meat products in your list of what you're eating, are you a vegetarian? You may be able to get advice from other vegetarians on how to maximize satisfaction with particular foods.

I probably eat more dense Proteins than what you listed, and they always fill me up more. But geez, you've lost 50 pounds in 12 weeks (which is way more than I lost at that point). It sounds like you are getting fit and eating really healthy, so I don't see the problem....

Actually, way to go!

Since the day after surgery i too have had no issues with eating. I take on 80-100g of Protein per day. I concentrate my cal intake on Proteins though. I am 5 months out and stay around 900cal and feel great but i can eat just about anything now. I dont think anything has stretched. I was told that the sleeve wont really ever stretch backnout to even close.to what we had. It will relax over time but never stretch like that. Just eat Protein with every meal and limit your fruits and what not. They can add up as well as nuts. They are good but only once in a while. Your weight loss sounds like it has been great. I too feel bad for all those who struggle with getting in their Proteins daily. We are the lucky ones. I havent had one problem physically since this all started. So good luck to you and wish u all the best for the future.

another comment to stretching stomach. I have felt the same thing but I don't feel like I have stretched it. I thought about it here and there but I really don't think it. Not sure how we could tell regardless. your feeling this even 6 weeks longer than me though which in 6 more weeks heck I feel I could eat a meal LOL. it's odd but I can't see to find a food probably I cant eat it's more now that I don't want to eat at the moment. My taste buds have changed though somewhat. I do have issues getting my liquids in

I hafta ask: We're u a revision surgery or did ur dr do the sleeve on u being a 29 bmi? I'm just curious. I get this question all the time cuz at the time of my revision, my bmi was 28. But since I had complications from my band (a slip), my insurance covered it and my dr did it.

Or did u have major surgery and remove most of ur stomach to lose 40 lbs? Wow. I guess everyones entitled to lose whatever way they want, but really?

Good luck to u!

I am 5 weeks out and eat pretty much everything I want. I wish I didn't. I am starting to choose the wrong foods.

I have also found it very easy to eat over my calorie goal. I track everything though and it keeps me honest with myself. I agree on the dense Protein thing. Find choices that are more filling. Personally I prefer turkey Jerky to a string cheese for example I have found it goes way further for me. And the staple soft foods like yoghurt and cottage cheese don't leave me satisfied. And one day I splurged and had chips and I felt like wow, not worth it. They didn't fill me at all what a waste of calories. That's one of those slippery slope foods where you can get a lot in quickly.

Eating better is still going to be a project even with the surgery restriction.

I am a vegetarian, and therefore I don't know of too many dense Protein solids. I can't eat too much of tofu.

Yea, that's a tuff one. Bean Soups and split pea Soup fill me up pretty good. Some tofu burger, kidney Beans and veggies would probably make a great chili. I'm sure you know better recipes than I do, but I would try and think "thick". Also, Tempeh has more Protein and Fiber than tofu so that might be more filling for you. I usually have a mid day snack of mixed nuts and they last in my tummy awhile. And if you do dairy (I saw you listed cheese), mixing oatmeal in with Greek yogurt definitely adds a level of bulk to it. But really, you do seem like you are doing great.

I too can eat a lot. I almost feel like my surgeon didn't make my sleeve small enough. Ugh!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
