Successful night of Couch to 5k...

Recommended Posts

My first successful night with the couch to 5k... it feels so good!!! i have been walking with my husband almost every day for the past week - 10 days or so... about 2 - 3 miles... i tried the couch to 5k the first day... ummm yeah that didn't go as planned... but i am happy to say that I was successful tonight then power walked for another 30 mins... I just cant believe I am typing this & saying that i enjoyed it... like who is this person i have morphed into ??? I NEVER enjoyed running... EVER... but now I feel so good... cant remember the last time i felt this good before WLS???

What about you? what are you doing that makes you feel good? or what do you plan to do?

Congratulations on your success. Can't say that I enjoy walking, I'd skip it if I could. For the past 6 months, I've been walking with a weighted vest with 30 lbs and averaging 3.2 mph for 3 miles.

Decided to go for broke on Monday and didn't wear the vest. Averaged 3.8 mph for 3 miles and even managed to jog a few hundred yards. Now my walking partner wants to go that fast every day.

I started C25K yesterday, and it went okay but there's def room for improvement. It felt good to be able to run, though. I tried the program about 60-65 lbs ago and my shins hurt and cramped so bad. I thought I had shin splints, but apparently it was the weight. No pain at all with running yesterday, a little thigh soreness today, though. I did Zumba today and walked about 5 miles with the husband and kids. Feels good. I absolutely love walking, especially on scenic walking trails. It doesn't feel like exercise because I can lose track of time and just enjoy my surroundings. Anyway, congrats on your success as well.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
