Cigna and BMI

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone started my process. Today was my first NUT appt. I have to complete a 3 moth journey w/ dietitian. I am in the borderline BMI, 41.8. I am concerned; wonder ifI lose to much weight I will get disqualified for surgery. Then again I can not gain anymore either( is summertime). Any one with Cigna that can advice me? Thank you.

I was 39.5 and didn't gain or lose in that time

My stuff was sent in - with some missing info- and they rejected first time

Make sure you get three visits - one a month in GREATER THAN or equal to 89 days or you risk rejection/delay

Other than that it was ok no issue.

I started at 39.7 and by the time my 90 days was up ( I made sure of my dates and had my last weigh in at day 94 just to be sure no one counted wrong!!) , I was down to 37.4 but considering I have severe sleep apnea and have had a CPAP for the last 18 months, it didn't seem to matter. I was approved by Cigna in one week's time.

I was told that it's the weight that you start at with your first surgeon's visit that Cigna goes by but I've wondered the same thing. My starting BMI was over 40 and I had two co-morbidities that were well documented. Cigna never questioned the co-mordities because at a BMI of 40 I didn't need them Read you approval level when you get it. It's very confusing and in one paragraph they say your approved and in the next they say that the letter is not an approval and your approval is determined by facts on the date of surgery. As a precautionary note I have decided not to drop to a BMI of 35 or below just in case. My current BMI is now just a little over 37 down from 41 but I will not risk having to pay for this myself by being too successful on my pre surgical diet.

I would also advise having a 4th meeting with your nutritionist or dietician. That way there is no doubt that you have been under a supervised weight loss plan for more that 89 days. Cigna is a stickler about the 89 day rule.

hello there, so I have to ask you ? My appt with surgeon Was on May 13, the May 27 my first nut appt, then June 17 2nd nut appt, July 7 third appt and final one is August 4. In total I had 4 visit, however, they do not equal to 89 days. Will this still be a problem.

Yes it has to be greater than or equal to 89. Reschedule that last appt just a little so it meets criteria

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
