I just had the surgery Thursday and have not had a lot today, just some Soup and Jello, maybe 800 calories at the most.

I know we're not supposed to drink our calories, but has anyone had a glass of wine or a cocktail so soon post-op? :cry

I asked as I was being released the day after surgery when I could enjoy a glass of wine. My nurse told me that Dr. Fielding would never tell me not to enojy my wine... she said the nutritionist would view it differently but that it's ok. :)

I ended up having a glass of wine about 1.5 weeks afterwards when I had a business meeting. I was still on liquids and we were at an Indian restaurant so I ordered a mulligitawny Soup and a nice glass of red wine. I didn't care about all the other goodies my colleagues were eating. I was *thrilled* with my wine and soup!

Beware... your tolerance will probably go to hell after the surgery. Please, one glass and I really feel it! I'm a cheap date... when it comes to food too!

Also, if you do go the wine route, just be mindful of the empty calories that it contains. You're almost always better off going with a glass of wine over a mixed drink... margaritas are particularly bad (as are anything creamy). Mojitos are my favorite but talk about your sugar!!!

Anyway, I hope you decide to enjoy your wine!

*cheers*

I'm so jealous you had Dr Fielding! I heard he and Dr Ren are amazing. I could've had them when I lived in the City, but I wasn't ready.

I love Dr Fielding.

Thanks for the advice!

I had a mixed drink about 2 weeks post-op. It was a friends b-day and I just sipped it over the course of about 3 hours. Now I will have a drink here and there, but I too feel it quickly. For super bowl I had a pomegranate martini and even though I took it slow and had food with it, I was too tipsy to drive home. Even 2 hours later, I ended up getting a ride with my mom and going back for my car the next day. If you are going to have a drink, make sure you have a ride or someone else to drive you home. Also make sure you are not taking pain meds with the alcohol. (I know that most people know this, but it never hurts to say it) Other wise, Cheers. ~Mandy

At the risk of being judged by the Bandster Police (LOL!), I had some wine 2 weeks post op. Just make sure you get a LOT of Water in that day. I once heard that one glass of wine depletes one glass of water from your body. I don't know if that's true but be careful not to become dehydrated.

Having a drink is perfectly fine I also had Dr. Fielding as my surgeon and I was banded April 2nd and 12 days post op I attended a wedding and had a rum and coke which isn't my normal drink but I figured i would go easy and I felt fine with only one drink and a few bites of food which I chewed to no end lol.

I can give you a great lo cal mojito recipe! I use sparkling Water, spenda, mint lemon, lime and bacardi white rum. It's great with only 150 cals for a large glass with 1.5 oz of bacardi.

I'm 4 weeks post op and had my first drink on Friday nite, a Smirnof Ice. It was before a meal. Honestly, I didn't feel anything. I've heard that you feel it sooner but never felt a thing.

I'm another patient of Dr. Fielding and I had my first glass of wine 13 days after surgery. I've had a glass on a couple of other occasions as well.

When I first met with the Dr. he mentioned that a glass of wine "before" dinner is fine - this made me very happy!!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
