Today has been a tough day. I'm freshly out of surgery. Only a week and 2 days. I physically am doing amazing, but I'm mental having such a hard time. I never thought I would miss food so much! I think about bad foods all the time and when I pass my favorite places I get down. Is this temporary? Any suggestions on how to control and help this problem?

What else can you focus on? Do you have a hobby or something you would like to learn to do? I took up knitting. It helped me keep my hands busy and my mind focused. Or reading? I hate to read but I know people who have used it as a distraction.

This is not an easy task. I've had some really bad days over the last 6 weeks. I'm starting to eat "regular" food now and it has made a difference. I know there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Jodie,

Don't beat yourself up about this.

I still have dreams where I'm stuffing myself with sweets like crazy.

I have not had any since surgery but I still think about them unconsciously and sometimes consciously.

As long as you stay with your plan of action you'll be fine.

Remember the bad foods most likely will make you feel horrible if eaten.

If you feel the need for stronger support I suggest talking to a therapist that specializes in food addiction if you can't get these thoughts off your mind. It might make you feel better about what your feeling right now.

Hang in there.

I had food dreams/cravings big time for the few weeks after my surgery. I could practically see myself biting into a big donut or other food and could almost taste it! Luckily that goes away. And while I still occasionally think about food, it's just a quick thought. What I find is that nothing really tastes as good as it did before anyway so I wouldn't have that same experience eating it now.

Hi Jodie

I had the same problem at first - I even wished I had never had the surgery it was so bad at times. But, honesty, it does get better! Just keep reminding yourself of that. I think it's part of our food addiction - obsessing with food even though we can't eat much any more, dreaming about eating all the wrong things.

I like Amy's idea - find something else to fill the time - take up knitting, get a library card and start reading like crazy, watch old movies etc. Better yet add some exercise - go for a walk etc. : )

Good luck - just remember it does get better. I'm 12 weeks out now and I'm into a routine of eating healthy food. I have bad days - but it's so much better - I'm losing weight and my Diabetes has resolved. Think positive!

I have to agree with statements mentioned above take one day at a time and try and focus on something else, reading, walking, or a new hobby, stay focus on the prize because as you know everyday it gets better and this too shall pass, if things continue i will go to a support group meeting or talk to someone perhaps your doctor can recommend someone. Good luck.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
