So scared im over eating and gonna bust my seam!

Recommended Posts

Had the gastric sleeve on May 10. I can hold way more food than what I was told I could and it has me scared I'm gonna bust my seams. I think I jumped ahead to eating soft foods so I'm going to stop and go back to puréed for another week. I'm losing but I'm so afraid of causing a leak it's making me stress out about it.. Any help out there?

why are you overeating? whats going on with you that you arent able to be compliant? i would recommend that you get yourself to a counselor asap to figure out why after going through surgery you arent able to make better food choices. find someone who has experience with eating disorders.

I was told I could only eat like 3 oz but I'm sure I eat closer to like 10-15 oz at my meals -- I'm losing but I'm worried about my intake

You need to contact your surgeon and tell him this. Don't delay.

What are you eating? If you are eating slider foods you can over eat!! Are you drinking while you are eating? This can push the food out! My diet for the second week was cottage cheese, applesauce... But I couldn't eat it.... Mashed potatoes loose... And oatmeal low sugar and cream of wheat... I got little two ounce plastic cups and filled them up and pulled one out to eat! This way to ensure I didn't over filly new tummy!

Start of the third week I could add tuna with mayo on either 1/4 to 1/2 piece of toast or one to two crackers.... Not saltines.... Also salmon packaged with mayo or whatever condiment I wanted and 1/2 to a while scrambled egg .. Of course I add catsup!! : )

The 3 oz figure is for solid food, and it sounds like you're not at that stage yet. Also, it means 3 oz of solid food taken at one sitting, which means over a 20-30 minute period.

For liquids and pureed foods it is perfectly ok if you can hold more than 3 oz, especially if you sip, sip sip over a longer period.

But you still should talk to your surgeon to clarify the situation in your own head.

Yes, I agree with the other posters. It is really important to be following the eating plan with the kinds of foods and the portions that have been outlined for you, especially as you are healing from the surgery. If you're not sure about which eating stage you're supposed to be in, check with your surgeon's office. That's what they're there for. They would much rather be answering many questions from you than having to see you/treat you for post-surgery complications.

Hang in there-- you'll be back to solid foods stage again before you know it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
