can you sleep on your stomach

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can sleep on their stomach after they have healed from the surgery. I'm hoping that it is possible since that is how I have been sleeping seems like all my life.

Thanks for any feedback:)

Laura

You won't for the first couple weeks, but after that I don't see why not. I don't sleep on my stomach, but I haven't had any stomach pain since week two. Maybe others have had different expriences.

Good luck!

Like Bruce said, not while you heal, but certainly after. I sleep on my tummy all the time. A disclaimer though, everyone has different reactions to the band and some have a sensitive port area for a long time, but hopefully, you'll be okay!

After about 6 weeks I was able to sleep on my side or stomach with no pain at all. I actually discovered this by rolling over in my sleep and waking up panicked, then realized I was fine. ~Mandy

I do at times. I am almost 3 weeks post op. However, I am one of those people with a sensitive port site.

If i wasnt to active that day that would cause some soreness, I will absolutly sleep on my tummy. However, for those days when I am sore, there is no way I can.

I always sleep on my stomach and had a hell of a time during the first week after I was banded. I can’t sleep in any other position, so even if I managed to fall asleep on my back or on my side, sooner or later I’d roll over and get the red-hot poker in your belly sensation that would jolt me wide awake. My doctor had prescribed Lortab, but I wasn’t taking it because I wasn’t in that much pain. But after a couple of days of no sleep, I gave the Lortab a try. I discovered that that stuff would knock me out for hours at a time, so that’s how I got through that first week. I’d take some before bed, sleep for 4-5 hours, then wake up and take some more and sleep for another 4-5 hours. After that first week I was fine. I would have the occasional twinge, but I’ve slept on my stomach regularly since the week after surgery.

I was able to sleep on my stomach 5 days post-op, but everyone is different.

Phew! I'm glad I'm not the ONLY one! I was sleeping on my tummy about 3-4 days post-op. I tried to avoid it if I could, because I was SO paranoid that I might tear something loose in there, if I slept on my side or stomach! LOL But most of the time I'd find myself on my belly, sometime in the night. :notagree I never had any pain in my tummy, even at the port site. I really wasn't even that sore.

Hearing the rest of you talk about the pain makes me wonder if I actually got banded! :omg: LOL

I guess it's just different for everybody, and I guess I was a lucky one!:)

My date is May 24 for LB, and glad to see this post, i am very one sided my DH says! I always go down/up starting with same foot. Our bed is really high and i use my right arm to help me lean and roll on to the bed. I didn't know how i was going to be able to sleep if i could sleep on my side any more.. thanks for the info

If your bed is that high I would suggest sleeping in a chair or recliner the first night or two. That is what I did and I am glad I did. The first night I was in my bed, it was hard trying to get up without help. I would say give yourself a night or so to heal without having to strain to get up or down. ~Mandy

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
