For anyone who smoked or smokes, what kind of nicotine tests do they do at the hospital before surgery?

I don't smoke, but I was told they do a blood test. If the results show nicotine, the surgery is immediately canceled. My surgeon has said that she canceled several the day of surgery in recent months.
