How do i break through a stall?!

Recommended Posts

I have been very patient. For the past month, I have been stuck. I know things slow down when you get close to your goal (15-20 more lbs) and I've tried to just wait this out. I use the elliptical trainer and do strength training and Pilates, I use mfp, I follow all the rules (almost all the time, nobody's perfect!) is there a stall busting trick I don't know about? I'm so frustrated!!

I had a stall that lasted for about two months. Don't be discouraged; keep eating according to your plan, exercising and drinking Water.

I had to reevaluate my eating and cut way down on carbs. When I closely monitored my Water drinking I realized that I was not drinking nearly enough water ( only 30 ounces). I made the changes and the following month I started losing weight again.

I've been in a "stall" since 4/30. I've lost and regained the same 3ish pounds since then and can't seem to break the cycle. OH WELL. All I can do it keep eating on plan, keep exercising and getting my body to a healthier place physically. The scale may not be moving right now, but my clothes are getting looser and my body is getting stronger.

Just keep doing what you are supposed to do. Eventually the stall will break but in the meantime, you are giving yourself the gift of health and that's much more important than the number on the scale.< /p>

I don't have enough proof that this works, but here's what I try when I want to break a stall. High Intensity Training - giving maximum effort for a short period of time. My exercise routine only consists of walking, but at work, I have access to the stairwells. I try to climb 5 flights of stairs as fast as I safety can. My best time has been 1 min 26 seconds. My lungs and legs are burning by the 3rd flight and I take a 10 second break at the 3rd and 4th floor.

If you are doing the same exercise routine, eventually your body is going to become more efficient at it. If your weight program consists mainly of free weights, try alternating with weight machines that force your muscles to work in a different way.

If you're on the elliptical, pick a program that changes up the one you're used to. Alternate speeds, add in inclines or switch off to a Stair Master for a few exercise sessions. When I used to do the elliptical, I set up my music playlist to have one really fast, motivating song ( like Motley Crew's "Kick Start My Heart") every 4th song, and I would go all out for the duration of that song, then slow back down to my normal pace.

Keep up the good work, you'll get there.

I have to agree Bfatfree - I was messing around with "gain a pound, down a pound" for what felt like forever (a month)....

After going over my diet etc with my NUT, she said it didnt sound like i was drinking enough Water, so after a good look at my Water intake, i was right about 30-40oz... i have increased that, and my work out - and today FINALLY the scale moved... everyone is different, and the closer you get to goal, the harder it will be. good luck & dont give up...

Here's something I copied from ButterTheBean (a veteran sleever): If your weight loss has stalled, read THIS.

I was stalled for 6 weeks - Feb 1st to mid March - and what broke it was the "change it up" plan. I had been eating very low carb, but I had gradually increased to having a Quest Protein bar for most of my meals, and I wasn't exercising because I hate it. So I relaxed on the carb restriction for a week or so, then went back to very low carb with max of 1 Protein Bar per day, and I increased the amount I was walking. That finally did it.

Best wishes!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
