My doctor won't allow those type of carbs for 6 months! Yeah that is INSANE to me. So at 6 moths I can introduce 1 small potato a day OR 1 piece whole wheat bread. I don't know how I feel about that. I mean I don't think that I should be able to eat alot of carbs but 6 months. I will be talking to him on Thursday, hopefully he will have something better to say!

My doctor didn't mention that at all. He was concerned that I get in all my Protein that is it. I eat carbs from day one without a problem. I did lose a little slower though. Its probably for optimal weight loss.

Kind of sounds like the Atkins diet, which in my experience was the fastest weight-loss system ever. I always put it back on + some. Maybe after the band it would keep it off. Only reason I can think of!

My doctor said to be sparing with potatoes. He said they're not healthy, not to count them as a vegetable, to count them as an indulgence. Of course, cause potatos are yummy!

My doc's only rules are no liquid calories except 2cups of ff milk, and 56g of protien min and 25g of Fiber, eat the protien first then veggies then grains. I personally don't eat Pasta or potatoes as they don't generally agree with me. Potatoes feel like they sewll up in my pouch and then I feel like I need to burp, not overly pleasant and pasta is a widely known caution food for bandsters as it sticks for so many of us.

My old surgeon didn't allow carbs (not even fruit or fruit juice!) until the patient reached goal weight.

Laurend...

Was your doctor German, with a little mustache?

LOL....

You'd think so, wouldn't you? Most of his patients were actually having RNY, not lap-band, and I think he just didn't feel like making new guidelines for his lap-band patients.

I've been having mashed potatoes and/or sweet potatoes pretty much every day! I can't imagine not having them.

Honestly, ur still eating so few calories (assuming u prepare them in a healthy way) that u should lose a few pounds. I don't see the harm. Just stay active.

I just came from my pre-op class and carbs are fine, however, they stressed eating your meals in this order... Protein first, veggies or fruits next, carbs last.

The thinking is once you've eaten chicken and vegetables (for example) you'll pretty much be full and won't have much room for the mashed potatos.

Well, in mushies.. you can't have chicken and lots of veggies.. so it's kind of.. dive into the taters! I've been eating sweet potato baby's 1st foods. Yum yum.

If you feel you can tolerate it, take it slow and try.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
