Vitamins- Chewable vs. Gummy

Recommended Posts

My doctor told me to get started on the Vitamins now, so I'm in the best shape nutritionally that I can be before surgery July 23rd. I bought the gummy vitamins and have been taking them, but I'm now wondering if I should switch to chewables, or if gummies will be ok post surgery. What has your experience been, and is there a difference in how gummies or chewables are absorbed? I want to make sure I'm doing everything I possibly can in order to be successful.

I'm also wondering if specific brands are better or should be avoided. I know there's vitamins specifically for post op bariatric patients, but I'm wondering if there's a true difference in the formulations or if it's more gimicky than anything.

Hi,

This is what I take:

Celebrate calcium citrate Chews-they come in berry, chocolate or carmel. I take two 3x a day.

Nordic Naturals Omega 3 and Vitamin D3. I take two of each 1x a day.

Twinlabs chewable Biotin. Two tablets 1x a day.

costco has B12 in cherry flavor that you put under your tongue for proper absorption. One tablet 1x a week.

Flinestones chewable Multi Vitamins. Two tablets 1x a day.

This list is from my nutritionist and surgeons offices according to their guidelines given to me.

They feel chewables absorb better. They Omega 3 and D3 are in pill form but they absorb fine that way I was told.

Calcium Citrate and multi vitamin can not be taken at the same time I was told.

I hope this helps and please make sure that these suggestions meet your surgeons and nutritionists guidelines.

Good luck with your upcoming surgery.

Gummies are not OK after surgery for most people. They do not contain Iron. Chemists have not discovered a way to get iron in a Gummy. There are many bariatric supplements on the market that are complete but expensive. My clinic recommends Flinstones Complete Chewables. They are much cheaper than the bariatric choices, are easy to get, and economical.

Gotta be really careful with the gummies because most add quite a bit of sugar. Usually the doctors and nutritionist will recommend certain brands/types specifically....

My doc says no gummies, because of sugar mostly. Flint stones chewables are the way to go IMO!
