YAY!!

I had a doctor too focused on weight and not focused on my health. I do believe that is why I've had some of the issues that I've had and the care/treatment (or the lack thereof).

My surgeon also did not give me a goal weight. I set my goal weight of 135 pounds at 5'4" based on a BMI in mid-healthy range, and also my most comfortable weight when I was in my early 20's. I am currently at 160, 5 months post-op, and still losing.

I had first set 160 (started at 278) before surgery. After surgery I set 145 (my weight when I got married). That came and went and now I KNOW it can't be any lower 128 - 132. I already feel a little "gaunt" looking in my face. I am trying to build muscle and of course the saggy skin makes it hard to really see how things are. I want muscle and I am working out mostly weight training now but struggle with the idea of gaining weight, even though I think I would look better than I do now. I like how I look but would like to look a bit "curvier". I have been getting the "You're not going to lose any more weight are you?" Comments and that isn't a good thing, in my opinion. I am 5'3 1/2" by the way.

People are used to larger sizes. Hence it can be different looking at someone when they weighed more. Not saying wrong or bad or right just saying ...

Did you determine your goal weight or was that determined by your physician or BMI calculator? Did most of you reach the set goal?

I have not had one, except at first I wanted to get into onderland. I did - exceptionally briefly, however. I am not sure my body likes that "place" unless maybe after some skin surgery. hmmmm.

I have regained a bit after dislocating my shoulder badly, and have not reset my intentions except with the goal of a daily minimum/maximum of calories, Water, rehab and waiting for my body to kick back in. It is taking it's own sweet time, however. It is a big reminder how much my activities and exercise played into my weight loss success. I never ate poorly, I was just so used to my awesome smoothies and bananas (as opposed to say, a salad or an apple) don't laugh! It's those small decisions that did me in more than any bad routine.

My doc said a realistic goal weight for me was 235, but once I got there, I wanted to be 224 (my high school weight). Now I'm 219 and shooting for 200. Just because my doc told me what weight to expect to reach, doesn't mean I couldn't change my goal.

I've read threads where the train of thought ran along the lines - at some point the sleeve will stop working, like it has an on/off switch.

The sleeve is a tool, to help you control food portions. At some point it becomes less effective because the metabolism has slowed and/or the body as at a weight at which the caloric intake meets or exceeds the body's needs. That's when I have to step up and take control of my eating and exercise.

I picked it. I thought if I could get to 225 I would be happy. But I found out that this was still a BMI classified as overweight. I didn't want that. But I continued to lose another 30 pounds at least.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
