allielee 263 Posted May 26, 2014 Hi! I'm an oldie because I had lapband in 2008. I lost all my weight in 9 months and kept it off easily for 5&1/2 years. I even had gotten a Tummy Tuck, breast lift with aug, thigh lift and advanced Lipo and then BAM my worst fear.. It failed me, it had grown in to my stomache and it had to be removed. So they took all the Fluid out and I began the battle to get it out and transferred to bypass. My doctor said almost all the Lapbands are failing after 5 years ( very disappointing!) I had paid in cash for my lapband so trying to get my insurance to pay was a battle, won which I lost. Either way I had to gain 45 pounds to be eligible to get the bypass.. I have a wonderful doctor who gave me a HUGE discount and did the surgery in one swoop. I really wish I had gotten the bypass in 2008! My insurance would have paid for that but not lapband and at the time my hubby was to afraid of the risks of bypass and chose to pay.. Well here I am, I had the surgery on May 21, 2014. Surgery went awesome and I feel awesome. I was discharged 24 hours after surgery! I could have stayed an extra day which I paid for but I felt awesome and wanted to be in my own bed. Every day I have felt better than the day before and as of this morning I am down 16 pounds!!!! I am thrilled with the choice I made and I am excited this hopefully will be my LAST surgery! I'm 44, married for 23 years two daughters 21&22 both graduated college with bachelors and our youngest daughter is 38 weeks pregnant with our first granddaughter! Yipee!!! So that's me in a nut shell! ❤️ 1 dcostella reacted to this
James Marusek 5,244 Posted May 27, 2014 Revisions seems to be a common problem with lap bands. One of the reasons why I choose to go with a gastric bypass RNY was the low revision rate. One time is enough for me. I wish you all the success in the world with your bypass.
