Hello,

I will be seeing my PCP Tuesday for the 1st appointment to discuss this option. Anyone have any advice?

I am so glad that this forum exists. Your posts are very helpful and inspiring.

Thanks everyone!

Good luck on beginning your journey. Don't be afraid to ask as many questions as you need on the first appointment, sometimes it helps to write them down

Thank you, I appreciate the advice.

I am really worried about how long it may take to get to the surgery from this point.

If you go foward with having surgery, make sure you schedule all your appointments and meet all requirements.. It will make the process smooth and in matter of months you will have a surgery Date. Stay on top of it!

I was too afraid to go. :-(

I've been reading more stories here and will reschedule A.S.A.P.

I just really am afraid that this will be a long process from 1st appointment to surgery.

I'm only 2 months into this and On Tuesday I get a surgery date. If you have initiative and you get all your appt scheduled ASAP you'll have your surgery before you know it. Be dedicated to your decision.

My appointment with the weight loss counseling center is the 13th. Since I last posted I have learned that I have hypothyroidism, slight anemia and Vitamin D deficiency.

Does anyone know how any of this might impact me approval for the surgery?

Thanks.

I don't know about the anemia or Vitamin D but I have hypothyroidism and it never affected my surgery.

I am anemic and my Nut said I will be prescribed an Iron supplement. She said that my iron need to be normal before I am scheduled for surgery but she didn't anticipate any problems. She said it is common.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
