musicmama 19 Posted May 25, 2014 I know there are a million questions about Protein Shakes, but I can't seem to find a good recommendation that is gluten free AND artificial sweetener free. Is Jay Robb going to be my only choice? Gluten and artificial sweeteners give me Migraines (and gluten also gives me joint aches and stomach troubles). I figured when I gave up gluten I'd lose weight in general, ha! I've been off gluten since last October and the only migraines I've had was when I twice had gluten (once on purpose and once in a "green drink", stupid barley!!). Everything I've read is sugar free this and sugar free that, none of which I will be able to eat Help? I'm very early in this process, but I'm also a planner 1 Pugmadkate reacted to this
msfitn2014 248 Posted May 25, 2014 You may have to check some whole food stores by you...i know several stores that have a big gluten free section and im not sure abt the artificial sweetner part of it...good luck 1 musicmama reacted to this
LumpySpacePrincess 594 Posted May 25, 2014 In my experience, the sweetner is what makes the Protein shakes tolerable in terms of taste. You can buy Isopure plain, but I would buy a small can of it at first to see if the aftertaste is OK for you. The other thing I can recommend is using cold Water soluble Gelatin (I use Great Lakes brand). You can add it to pretty much anything and it gives you 6g of Protein per teaspoon. It has no flavor at all, no sweeteners, and no gluten. Also, you might want to try the liquid sucralose (EZ-sweetz). The liquid variety of Splenda doesn't have the ingredients that give you the headaches, which are used when they make it granulated. 1 musicmama reacted to this
musicmama 19 Posted May 25, 2014 I have some of the red can Gelatin, I remembered there was a soluble one, but I didn't realize it had that much Protein, that's great, thank you I do like the Jay Robb powder, but I was wondering what else was out there. Some different flavors, etc. whey Protein is okay with me, but I'd rather not do soy if I can help it. I don't have a WF near me (it's almost an hour away) but there's a Trader Joes on my way home from work. I wonder what they have there...
LumpySpacePrincess 594 Posted May 25, 2014 Try netrition.com. They have a ton of options! 1 musicmama reacted to this
Kindle 8,667 Posted May 25, 2014 (edited) Garden of Life Raw Fit and Raw Protein. Gluten Free, dairy free, sweetened with stevia. Protein is from sprouted seeds and Contains Probiotics and enzymes. Comes in original, chocolate, vanilla and spiced chai. I got mine online, but have seen them in a lot of health food/whole food stores. I also take their Multivitamin for women. http://www.gardenoflife.com I'm not a big organic/natural food freak, but these taste good and it's nice drinking something other than processed whey protein for a change. And I've developed a strong dislike of the taste of artificial sweeteners over the last month. Bufflehead 6,358 Posted May 26, 2014 Tera's Whey and About Time are both all natural (sweetened with Stevia) and gluten-free. I've tried them both -- About Time was pretty good. I thought Tera's Whey was awful but some people like it. You can buy individual sized packets of Tera's Whey and get a trial pack of two flavors from About Time. About Time has 10 flavors they sell, so lots of variety to pick from. http://tryabouttime.com/shop/trial-pack/ http://www.teraswhey.com/single-serving-packets/ 1 musicmama reacted to this
musicmama 19 Posted May 26, 2014 So I commented on another post about costco shake prices and here they have one on their site, lol http://www.costco.com/Betty-Lou's™-Low-Glycemic-Whey-Protein-Shake-Powder-Chocolate-%2526-Vanilla---2-Pack.product.100013267.html Thank you so much for all your help! musicmama 19 Posted May 26, 2014 I remember trying the Garden of Life perfect food way back when, at the same time I green the Greens+ supplement and they both came RIGHT back up. Like literally swallowed down, came back up. I should get a small of the powder and see if it does the same. I like the idea of it having the enzymes and Probiotics in it. musicmama 19 Posted May 26, 2014 Xylitol doesn't seem to bother me in toothpaste or gum, but now that you mention it... there were a few times when I overate on some sugar free candy and…ummmm, let's just say it was 10 years ago and my husband still remembers that enormous gurgle sound, and the hazmat moment that lingered around afterwards. (too much information from a newbie?) I'll bet it would bother me that way again. hmmm.
weasle mama 21 Posted May 26, 2014 I get the Gold Standard whey Double Rich chocolate. There are NO sweeteners and NO gluten. My sister is gluten intolerant and has no reaction at all to it. And I have reactions to artificial sweeteners except Stevia and this has nothing in it. I like to doctor it up with a half of banana and a tsp of PB2. If you don't know what that is it is a powdered Peanut Butter that has only 45 calorie per 2 tbsp. Give it a try, I buy mine from Vitamin Shoppe or Amazon.< /p> Hope that helps!!
