6 months out need info!

Recommended Posts

I'm 6 months out from my surgery. My weight has stalled for the past 3 weeks. I started working out doing kickboxing 3x a week for the last 2 wks. My hair is also falling out in clumps! Anyone else that is 6 months out or more, can u post how many calories you are taking in and what your experience was with this????

I'll be 6 months out on the 27th and honestly, I'm having the same issue. I have been playing around with the same 4 pounds (up and down, up and down) for the past month. My hair is also thinning.

So frustrating. My calories are anywhere between 900 and 1200 and my Protein is between 80-100. I mostly walk and walk and walk for exercise and some yoga and weights.

I'm 6 months as well - my hair started falling out at 2 months and is starting to slow down now. Yes, it comes out in clumps. I can see new growth (my doc approved Biotin and Folic Acid; I also use Nioxcin shampoo).

For the stall - if you haven't experienced a stall yet, consider yourself lucky. I have lost 3.5 pounds in the past 8 weeks. Talk about frustrating...HOWEVER, I'm taking my measurements and the numbers are coming down. I'm exercising and building muscle, I can see it.

As far as calories, I'm doing 1000-1200 per day. I've started drinking shakes again, at least one per day, at my doctor's suggestion.

I love the hair, skin and nails Vitamins by ItWorks. Lots of Biotin and vitamins and all natural. Had to stop them for surgery but will start them again as soon as I can. Someone just told me today that my hair and skin looks great and she didnt know I had been taking the vitamins. I also Shampoo with nioxin.

Most of us have the Hair loss thing. Just one of the inconveniences of WLS. But, when you have reached your goal weight and you are healthy and in control of your eating habits and enjoying a much better quality of life, you will barely remember this grrrrrr hair loss! It's a little different for everyone, but YES, it does stop falling out. I think generally, most people by one year have most of their Hair growth back (or coming back). Hang in there, be patient, it's still all worth it. . .

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
