IT IS NOT OK TO SKIP IT!!!!!!!!!!!

You are not taking the PPI to prevent hunger. You are taking it to prevent acid formation in your sleeve TO PROMOTE HEALING OF YOUR SUTURE LINE!!! Your stomach cannot heal in an acid environment, or at the very least it will take MUCH longer. TAKE YOUR MEDS. I have taken mine in capsule form since day 1 after surgery; ask your doc if you can switch to capsules. But please, do not skip it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dsmith is right...it's a healing/protective thing. My doctor sent us home with Omeprazole 40mg MANDATORY 2 months. I weaned off after that (went to 20mg OTC for a couple weeks) and stopped completely at 3 months.

After I got sleeved, I suffered from heartburn so I've been on a PPI for a while. I looked up long-term effects of taking one and about a week and a half ago I started to wean myself off by taking an H2 blocker instead. Without the PPI I'm not as hungry and I get full faster. I'm not sure why the PPI would allow me to eat more or maybe the return of stomach acid is causing me to eat less. So the whole acid mistaken for hunger theory is not true for me. If you don't need it, don't start! You can get rebound reflux if you start taking the PPI.

Oh, I wasn't aware of that. I wasn't prescribed one after being sleeved. Sorry!!!

My doc didn't give me any meds for acid and I've never taken any. But you should really call your doc and get his answer as to whether you should be taking them or not. Every case is different and you need to go with your doc, he knows your situation better than anyone.

Any drug you take can have side-effects. My doc only prescribes one month of Omeprazole for his patients because of the long-term side-effects of PPIs. It's a risk/benefit kinda thing. For one month, the benefits far outweigh the risk. Good luck!

I was never prescribed it - never needed it.

But that sounds like a decision you and your doc should make together.

My Dr told me it helps keep the stomach acid down so it stays off if the suture line and aids in heeling

I think its so strange that we've all had the same surgery and have such different post op instructions ranging from post op diet to meds after etc that makes me wonder how our results can eventually be the same.... I took the meds today i would much rather swallow my nexium capsule but i was told no pills bc of possible sharp edges but this is a capsule i wonder if its allowed...

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
