I haven't been on here in way too long. I guess a lot of it has to do with shame and guilt with not changing my eating habits over the last year & 8months and drinking WAY too much alcohol after my surgery. My food demons are still very present unfortunately.

Surgery weight was 335 & current weight is 220. surgery date was september 27th 2012.

I logged in here to ask two questions:

1. In the last 4 days I have lost 9 pounds. the last two days I have had terrible "runs". I cant remember if rapid weight loss caused this? Anyone know?

2. My surgeon strongly discouraged me against the sleeve because all the patient's he had performed the sleeve on, didn't reach their goals. He said I will lose around One Hundred pounds and there it usually ends. He firmly recommended I get the RNY/Gastric Bypass. I started out thinking I wouldn't be one of his statistics but that wasn't the case...

On an interesting side note my surgeon continued to do the vertical sleeve for a little over 6 months after I had surgery but then discontinued it and now only performs duodenal switch and RNY.

Recently I started on phentermine to get back on track and start over with this never ending food addiction. In addition I made an appointment with a therapist and scheduled an appointment with a hypnotherapist also. Cant hurt right? Back to my point though. Have the majority of you only lost 80 to 120 pounds and still have OVER 30 pounds till you reach the ideal weight on the weight chart?

I was sleeved 5 days after you , lost 110 pounds the first 10 months and have gained 5 since then. I'm stuck at 190. Phentermine is very dangerous and only works temporarily. Other than that, it sounds like you're on the right track. I know I need to figure out my eating problems but I just don't have the courage to seek help. My problem is I've replaced binge eating with grazing. I've recognized this recently and struggle everyday to stop. I'd be interested to hear how therapy goes. Keep us updated and good luck!

I've lost 120 with the sleeve and have a healthy BMI finally. My surgeon says I'm at goal but I just want to lose 5 more so I have wiggle room lol. I tried to get my doctor to give me phentermine but she instead suggested surgery so here I am! Good luck it is totally possible to achieve your goals with this surgery.

If you find you are very unhappy with your weight still and can't seem to lose anymore you can have the other half of the DS surgery. There are several people in my support group who have had it in 2 steps, My sister had DS and is at goal weight and stays there no matter what she eats. She does of course have some GI issues that go along with that, but she's happy with the trade off. I have over 100lbs to lose and am 3 weeks post op sleeve and am hopefully I will beat the averages and get to goal. My therapist said grazing is the number one reason for regain so you are on the right track getting that in check. Good luck to you and congrats on losing over 100lbs:)

Tamara, have you followed up with your surgeon's office or NUT recently? Maybe a visit with them will help get you back on the right track.

I'm newly sleeved, so the information is fresh in my mind, but my surgeon's rules are 3 meals a day and nothing in between except for Protein shakes if you are not getting in your Protein. Also, no alcohol. I know a lot of people do imbibe after they are sleeved, but I know in the past drinking has definitely affected my diet inhibitions! It caused me to throw caution out the window and just eat whatever I felt like. I don't want to go back there, so I don't plan to go back to drinking at all. Plus, alcoholic beverages are just empty calories. I'd rather eat my calories!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
