I'm going bald! Please help

Recommended Posts

Had my Rue-n-y in January. At this point I am able to eat and drink pretty normal. However all my hair is falling out. I went from thick hair to now you can see my scalp and actual bald spots. I am taking Biotin. What else can I do? Thank everyone in advance.

melissabeauty, I also had RNY in January and echo your concern. Many suggest Biotin, but that is already in my bariatric Multivitamin.

The experience of others has me believing this hair loss/thinning is only temporary.

Not that it is helping as far as I can tell right now, but I am using Organix Shampoo. One has aragon oil in it and the other has Vitamins and biotin in it.

Best of luck to you. I understand it is alarming when the Hair loss begins. It's just part of the process.

In my opinion (and my surgeon's) there isn't much other than time and patience that will help Hair loss associated with wls . . . but those things do help just about everyone!

In the meantime, check out Toppik or Nanogen fibers to cover the thinning parts of your hair. They work great! I used them for years prior to surgery because I lost most of my hair just due to bad genetics.

I am 65 years old and am 12 months post-op from RNY gastric bypass operation. My hair began to thin significantly over 10 years ago. At that time I began taking a special supplement called Juvenon. One of the side effects of this supplement is that it stopped my hair-loss and also stopped the graying. I began using Juvenon as soon as the doctor would let me after the operation. I have not had any Hair loss as a result of the operation.

Juvenon is a supplement comprised of Acetyl-L-Carnitine and Alpha Lipoic Acid. It is sold on-line. It was designed as an anti-aging supplement. It reinvigorates the mitochondria. I have found it very useful in boosting my breathing.

I used prenatal Vitamins which seemed to help. I was told about this in a support group I attended.

Biotin helps. My hair was thick before surgery and after started falling out like crazy! Also Nioxin is great to wash hair with and makes your hair look thicker!

I use Toppik for PCOS-related hair thinning and it covers really well. I'm upping my Vitamins and Biotin now to prepare for surgery in Feb/March - and hoping Toppik will still suffice when the hair loss happens!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
