cheating on pre-op liquid diet

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I am writing this because I am ashamed and embarrassed because I cheated on my liquid diet with several times. Now I've read ppl posts about cheating with fruits or maybe crackers but my ass went the extra mile and ate McD three times. I am completely worried but also wondering if I should even do this. I have 10days left, will my liver shrink enough in time? I've come so far and frankly too far too sabotage it for myself. Please folks give me some words of encouragement. Keep the criticism down to a minimum please.

Just get back on it now and don't cheat! 10 days is enough to shrink your liver I think but if you find you just can't get yourself to do the pre-op diet you may want to re-think having this surgery. The pre-op diet is temporary but the surgery is forever. Eventually you can eat at McD's but remember that processed food is part of the issue, IMO, it acts like a drug and creates cravings. So try very hard, if you truly want this, to stay clear of fast food and stick to your surgeon's pre-op diet requirements. It ain't easy. Thought I'd go nuts during mine but I made it thru and so you can too.

I will echo what @@Chelenka said...you have 10 days and it's enough to get back on track if you do it NOW. Honestly, the pre-surgery diet isn't that difficult after the first few days (a little boring maybe, but not that difficult), especially if you keep it in perspective. Two weeks is very little time to give up food in working for your goal. And post-surgery, you won't be able to cheat in that manner without really hurting yourself.

Again, if you can't stick to the pre-op diet, you may want to rethink your priorities and why you're doing this. If you want the healthier lifestyle bad enough, you'll change. If you're not quite prepared to make the necessary changes, take a step back.

It really is worth it to stick to the plan though. Stay on track for the next 10 days and you'll be fine.

Hi you need to stay focus and take one day at a time you have enough time to get back on the bandwagon and correct your mistakes you need to remind your self it is not the end of the world regarding food just a different way of looking at food and eating food in portions that are control. the liquid diet makes it easier for your surgeon to see everything during surgery you can do this, you want a smooth surgery without any complications as possible. Good luck you got this.

How much weight have you lost on the pre-op diet? That should give the answer you seek. I was required to lose 10 lbs in 7 days. I made that mark in 3 days on the pre op diet.

My surgeon wants me to loose 15lbs. So stick with it you are probably on track. When you see that McDonald's drive right past, nun uh don't even look at the place. Look straight ahead, and pretend it doesn't exist. It's not there! I used to say, 10 ago, that my car had an alignment problem, when I drove by "M" (let's just quit using their name) it would pull toward it. Let's look straight forward and never look back, we can do this thing!!!

I am there with you...the first 4 days were difficult for me and I cheated several times...including going to fast food 1 time...yesterday I did a lot better but still wasn't right on track...so don't feel alone..as of today I also have 10 days left and it feels a little easier for me and I have followed my pre-op diet completely but it's only 11am...I can do this and I am sure you can too. :)

It is a real struggle I only have to do 7 days liquid... I did wonderful the first four, aside from not eating all the Optifast provided for me. today however. I'm irritable and hungry! I did cheat a little today but tries keeping it healthy at that

Thanks guys I am very appreciative of all the encouragement and truth. I am trying once again today to do better and if it becomes too much I'll just eat an apple. Out what about watermelon?

My NUT said carrots, celery, cucumbers and lettuce were fine as a snack...

Apple and watermelon both have fructose, so you wouldn't be avoiding sugar (as it was explained to me, sugar needs to be avoided at all costs during this time) Even the yogurt I was allowed couldn't have fruit pieces in it. If you need a crunch, go to veggies instead. Or yogurt. SF Jello. SF popsicles.

I admire you for being able to post here about what you did, that takes courage. You have it in you to do this. Here is what I do as I struggle with foods I should not be eating. Every time I see something that is not healthy for me, or not on my pre-surgical diet and I am tempted, I visualize the skull and cross bones symbol for POISON right on top of it.

After all, some of these foods are poison to those of us who struggle with obesity. Even thin people should not be eating that stuff, but some can eat away without it causing them to gain weight. That is not my luck to be able to.

But then again, when I think about it, maybe WE are the lucky ones. We are learning to eat the right foods in the right portions. The people who live on fast food still pay a price, it may not be in weight gain but they will surely end up with unhealthy fat in their arteries.

As the others have said, you have time to stick to the program now. And be prepared to say good-bye (at least for awhile) to those foods that are poisonous for you. Good luck.

Nancy

PS, I am pretty sure the day will come when I will be the one posting here about needing to stick to the liquid diet, LOL. We all have to do it after all.

readyanxsscared, you are not the first one, nor will you be the last. I also believe you have enough time to get back on track. The two week liquid diet is really hard. I haven't done it yet but I can see myself falling off. I am going to try really hard to stay on track, but guess what? I'm not going to beat myself up if I fall a little. The apple and watermelon are better choices if you have to have something solid. Good luck and just know, this too shall past. You will be on the other side in no time.

My surgery is tomorrow afternoon and I'm on day 6 of clear liquid diet! It's been very hard but have not cheated. I don't know where I got this willpower because I could have never do this before. I didn't loose any weight prior to my PreOp liquid diet but have lost 14lbs since starting the diet. I hope my liver has shrunk enough so I don't have any complications during surgery. I think you still have 10 days, so try your best to keep the diet I'm sure you will feel better and your liver will shrink. Good luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
