I have seen several posts about being sure to tip various people who provide services. So I would like to know how much is an appropriate tip for various scenarios. I know someone will say whatever you feel like giving but I would rather more concrete numerical examples.

How much for:

nurses in hospital (is this really necessary? and which ones should you tip? all of them? every time they bring you food or when you leave?)

driver to and from airport?

driver from hotel to hospital or vice versa?

hotel room service?

luggage handler?

anyone I forgot or don't know about?

I did not tip the nurses and didn't even consider it.

this is what I did:

Driver from airport 10

bell hop 2 dollars each time (one bag)

Room service, I would look at the reciept to see if it is already on there otherwise, yes I would tip.

Housekeepers - a couple bucks a night

Coordinator/attendant (took me shopping, got all my fluids, found me cheap meds, etc and also brought to to and from hospital) 100

Thank you Janey. It really helps to get an idea. I do travel a lot and I usually over tip. Over tipping is better than under tipping but without feedback like yours, it is hard to know which is which. I would like to fall within the norm. One time a friend tried to tip a guy giving her a blood test (this was overseas) and he was very offended. She thinks he might have been a physician. She didn't know and had been told to tip everyone.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
