Dilemma- Surgeon mask covering nose?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I am imagining proper technique in my head for putting in an IV. Mind you, I don't know squat but......

Ok, Should the nurse put on gloves, then open the sterile pack not touching anything else, and then insert the needle?

Or should the nurse open the package, then drop the needle onto a sterile cloth without touching it, and then put on gloves and then insert it in you before touching anything else?

I know the inside of the sterile pack is sterile but I don't think the outsides are right? So how do they keep it sterile?

LOL, none of the above. Some procedures are clean, some are sterile, which dictates the process.

Here's the thing. I think it's imperative that you are the master of your own health care and that you make informed choices. You should expect your healthcare practitioners to provide safe care and you should have some basic expectations (like did you SEE them wash their hands before and after the touch you). But since you are not a medical professional, you are never going to be able to evaluate everything they do. You need to make sure they are accredited by some regulating body to show that they meet standards of practice. Research the best you can, and go with someone you trust. The trust is key here, because even if they have passed a survey, there is no guarantee they will not deviate during your procedure. You need to trust that they will adhere to the standards when no one is watching.

My surgery was recorded and I have it on a flash disk or whatever those little things are called.

You can ask your Dr if you can have a copy of your surgery.

Speaking of recording the surgery: I plan to have Dr. Q record mine for me on a jump drive, but I don't know how soon I'll be ready to look at it. On one hand it gives me the heebie jeebies, and on the other hand I want to see what it looks like!

Also, Sassy, I'd like to PM you if you don't mind.

@@MichiganChic You are right about not being properly equipped to evaluate. We are just trying to do the best we can and figure out what is what. I was mostly just curious about the procedure itself. Knowledge is power!

I know some people might freak out at the surgery video, but if you can handle it, watch it! I knew that Dr. Quinones was the surgeon for me, but after watching my video I had an even greater sense of knowing I had chosen the right surgeon. That man is a surgical savant! It is amazing watching his work in real time.

You look great girl!!!! I'm losing very, very slow. :(

I'm almost ready to watch the video of the surgery. Couple more months. Lol

@@Sassypants92201 Sorry, me email notifications are not coming in for some reason. Thank you, I was a slow loser as well, very frustrating, getting your mind to adjust to working with your sleeve is a serious learning curse...not to mention old habits die hard. How far out now are you Sassy, and how much are of you down if you don't mind me asking. Feel free to PM the info to me if you like, maybe can share tips on how I overcame certain things.

I am down 24 lbs and surgery was on June 9th. I started focusing on my food and Water and dropped 2 lbs yesterday. So I started at 208 and I'm at 184.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
