My first fill....

Recommended Posts

I could not be more excited for my first fill. I was banded on 3/19/07 and will be getting my first fill exactly one month post-op (4/19/07).

I was starting to get depressed - I was feeling like I could eat anything (and I was starting to).

I pray this fill brings me some restriction to get me back on track.

Good Luck Everyone! :clap2:

The fill may or may not give you restriction...but it will get you started on the road at any rate!!!!

In my case, the first fill simply confirmed I did have a working band! It forced me to slow down and chew well. Then a month later, my 2nd fill gave me good restriction.

I'm not nervous right now, but may get nervous closer to Thursday.

I'm just glad I'm getting a fill!

Lindsay, I'll never forget my first fill. It really helped take the hunger edge off. Don't be surprised however if you lose your restriction fairly quickly. It typically takes a few fills to get to optimal fill level and good restriction. It took me 5 fills and 8 months to get there. Hang in there. Julie

Thanks Julie! I was beginning to feel like the momentum had died and now with my first fill that the momentum will pick up again.

Maybe it's partially mental, but I hope it will help me to eat less.

Thanks for all the support!

The band is basically a tube with a balloon in the center, when you fill the balloon part it makes it tighten down around the stomach. It is made from the same silicone material as breast implants. The band is attatched to a tube, connected to a port. The port is stitched into a layer of muscle type of tissue, and is accessed by poking a needle through your skin, into the port, and adding saline. The saline, goes through the tubing, and into the band, causing it to tighten around the stomach, increasing the restriction of food passing so quickly. Which leaves you feeling full longer.

Some people feel enough restriction just getting the band put on, and others require 7 or 8 fills of saline to get to a good point, called the sweet spot. A place where you can eat a small amount, and feel full for several hours.

Welcome to LBT!!!
