Reading peoples stories and amazing weight losses makes me realise that despite wobbles I am doing the right thing. Just wish I'd done it at 44 and not 54!

Hi! I have the SAME concerns!! I don't have a date yet; I just started on the process, but I am so worried about failing this like I've failed every other attempt. I've gotten great advice from others that I need to work on what drives me to overeat rather than just rely on the surgery. I'm going to OA and my therapist for that and hoping the combo of that and surgery does the trick! Best wishes!

I think you've got this. You are preparing your stomach AND brain!

Its only natural to have some worries, lets face it if we could loose weight easily and keep it off none of us would need surgery. In the early days you will have "what have I done" moments, I think most do. Head hunger rather than actual hunger takes a bit to over come but once you recognise it for what it is you overcome that. Listen to your new stomach and it will soon tell you that you are full, take small bites and eat slowly and you will do fine. If I can loose weight after my surgery with limited mobility due to a disability, polycystic ovaries and an under active thyroid everyone can.

One last thing in the early days after surgery I found chewing sugar free gum helped loads when I was craving something proper to eat. It felt great to just chew anything lol.

Mollsy you will have to take it a bit easy after surgery so do try to get a few weeks extra help in the early post op days.

Good luck to everyone with their surgery.

Thanks for your replies everyone. Willow13 it sounds like you have done brilliantly despite the odds. I'm starting to feel less nervous and more excited now having read other people's experience

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
