I was thinking of trying it just to see and prepare my self . My biggest fear is that when I get on the full 2 week liquid diet that I will have a hard time. I work a fast paid job and need my strength and energy .

I did the 2 week liquid diet prior to surgery and found it alot easier than I thought it would be. I used a high Protein shake, Premier Protein and it kept me full. I had my worries, but it was ok. The hardest part for me was that I usually eat out with my co workers and had to cut that out for a while. I felt cut off from the world.

I've thought about doing 3 days ever so often just to kind of "reboot", but every time i say I'm going to, I just cant get motiviated. I may try it too.

The first three days are the most difficult so just know that it won't be as hard for a full two or three week a liquid diet -- and also some surgeons don't even have patients do a ore-op at all. I had two weeks and started in early as I was so excited and needed to do something. Also now once in a while I go liquids for a day or two for that reboot -- thanks for the reminder as maybe I'll do that again as well. Good luck as you wait for approval -- thinking of you!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
