Slimk 23 Posted May 22, 2014 I am 3 weeks post op and have done extremely well.....no complications, problems or pain. (20 lbs down) My doctor moved me to soft foods yesterday ...woohoo!!! This morning, I felt pain in my gut. It was so painful, I skipped Breakfast. The feeling soon subsided a little with lots of GasX. Then I ate!!!!!! Mistake!! I had a boiled egg. Probably ate it too fast since it was 2 o'clock and I hadn't had anything all day for the pain I was having. OMG! My sleevie hurt so bad! I got up and walked, and walked and walked. Got clamy and finally, after about 30 minutes it passed. I am going back to creamy stage for fear of this again. I need to learn a lot, first and foremost, eat SLOWER! Is this what you call "dumping"? I have read conflicting posts regarding dumping....some say it is when you are sent running to the bathroom for emergency #2 and some say it is similar to what I experienced today. LumpySpacePrincess 594 Posted May 22, 2014 Not dumping. Just sounds like your sleeve is still really tender and maybe the egg got stuck a little. If you had dumped you would have had a racing heart, sweating, feeling like you're going to die kind of thing. Just remember to take bites about a quarter of the size of your thumbnail for awhile. joatsaint 2,814 Posted May 22, 2014 (edited) Boiled eggs were one of the toughest foods on my sleeve - very hard to break down. You might try soft scrambled eggs instead and see if you have the same reaction. chicken, eggs, whole wheat bread and vegetables were some of the foods that took the longest for me to get adjusted to post-surgery. Frankensleeve felt like a garbage disposal trying to grind up rocks when I ate something he didn't like. Edited May 22, 2014 by joatsaint
Miss Mac 6,262 Posted May 22, 2014 Never had a problem with scrambled eggs, but hard boiled is like trying to digest a microwaved golf ball. And Peanut Butter....even though I am 4 months out.....still gives me fits. Training your new tummy is a matter of trial and error. Don't be in a hurry to progress. There is a lot of healing going on.
LindafromFlorida 1,542 Posted May 22, 2014 A small piece of very soft chicken nearly killed me about 4-5 weeks out. I went back to soft foods 2 more weeks. I never want to feel that scare again. You should cut the boiled egg in about 10 small pieces and eat it with a fork. For that matter, this would work on many foods.

I am a month out and I still can't do hard boiled or scrambled, even if it is made with egg beaters. I've never had an issue prior. A non sleeved friend told me she has always gotten heartburn with any type of egg. I just don't do any eggs anymore sad because I liked them.
Slimk 23 Posted May 22, 2014 Thanks everyone!!! I am going to stick with yogurt, creamy Soups and such for another week. I never want to experience that again! So can someone please explain exactly what dumping is? Is it a bowel movement or a sick feeling? lol
Amy373 56 Posted May 22, 2014 My doc said to wait on eggs because they tend to get stuck. 1 Slimk reacted to this

So can someone please explain exactly what dumping is? Is it a bowel movement or a sick feeling? lol dumping syndrome is when very shortly after you eat you go to the bathroom. I had an issue with going at first but now after I eat I go. No matter what I eat.
dsmith_rn 186 Posted May 22, 2014 I am 4 weeks out tomorrow, and tried to eat a hard-boiled egg this morning. It didn't sit well in my sleeve. It felt heavy and I felt full and nauseas for several hours afterwards. Funny thing is, I can eat egg salad with NO PROBLEM! So I think the problem was that a hard-boiled egg by itself is TOO DRY. I have eaten soft scrambled eggs with cheese and salsa with no problem also. I have to remind myself that the foods I eat not only have to be soft, but also MOIST. The moisture content in a food can make all the difference between happy sleeve and MAD sleeve! As to your other question, dumping can include diarrhea, but just diarrhea by itself does not mean you are dumping. If you ever dump you will definitely know it and never want it to happen again. People say it feels like you are dying. You get sweaty, heart racing, severe cramps, some people even pass out. It lasts around 20-30 minutes and passes on its own. My NUT says eating a handful of nuts MAY help it to pass sooner, but basically you just have to wait it out. I've never dumped (yet), but I read a thread on this site earlier today by a sleever who was eating sugar-free, fat-free frozen yogurt. She ate it regularly, but this time she wasn't paying attention and ate about twice the amount she usually ate. It caused her to dump, even though it was sugar and fat free; it was that she ate too much of it. Frozen yogurt is a "slider food" that we could all probably eat too much of because it doesn't stay in the sleeve for long. Good luck to you, and remember to keep your food MOIST! jess9395 5,449 Posted May 22, 2014 eggs hurt me too when I was at your stage. Many other foods were fine, but eggs of any sort hurt. Put them away for a couple weeks and try again. About 2-3 months out I could finally have them.

This makes perfect sense!! I did have egg salad the other day and it was fine. The hard boiled egg today was pure hell for atleast an hour! Thanks for your reply! 1 dsmith_rn reacted to this
