Do you miss anything about being Fat? (You're Old Body)

Recommended Posts

I'm in the Pre-op part of this journey and I have all my appointments set up and ready to go, All I have to do is get through them before August!

As a lot of you I am doing a lot of research online (Youtube, Pintrest, Bariatricpal and just about every other website relating to bariatric surgery out there) while trying to prepare myself for the VSG and like a lot of you I go back and fourth on "is this necessary for me?" "Will I be happy?" "Am I doing the right thing?"...And once I come up with the answer of YES, I run into a new article or person trying to convince me otherwise.

I found this article a while back (Before I ever started looking into surgery) and was thinking back to it today...

http://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-13018/5-things-i-miss-about-weighing-more-than-300-pounds.html

And I'm just curious as to how many of you have regrets about getting the surgery, Do you miss being Fat at all?! (Disregarding all health issues).

I guess for me I feel like there might be a few thing's I would miss, Since I've been fat my whole life I have no idea what it's like to live in a normal body. It's basically my identity!..I fear I'll miss my old self a little bit I guess.

What about you?

Thanks for sharing CarolinaGirl..

Sorry I can't relate to any of that, But I can understand you're specific situation and why you wouldn't miss it.

I certainly don't miss being fat however for me it has currently been difficult maintaining my loss. When you have lived most of your life having bad eating habits it can be a challenge to eat in a good way. So regardless, I wouldn't trade the weight that I have lost for anything; being fat is NOT fun.

Well I am still in transition of becoming the new me...but I do not miss weighing in at 397 pounds. I have no regrets at all. The only thing I wished that stayed were my boobies lol

I can relate to the part about sleeping - my hip bones seem sharp against the memory foam mattress. I do sometimes miss being able to eat large quantities of food and have 2 or 3 glasses of wine in an evening. Would I go back where I was if I could? Absolutely not!!! I love being more normal in size, but I really love having control over my eating for a change. Very glad I did this!!!

I am sort of with CarolinaGirl on this one. Fortunately you are young and have not become as large as others ( myself included) before deciding to take charge of your life. With age often comes wisdom because we have already been there, done that. LOL I can tell you the part about bathroom habits being different is spot on. At 316lbs I could barely manage "down there" because I could hardly reach things. That time of the month was an exercise is aggravation and agility as I tried to angle just right to use a tampon. (sorry if TMI) I had started having bladder control issues. Things you may or may not take for granted become so much harder the larger you are. Now I am down in the 220s ( which is still obese) I can take care of my hygiene 100% better. Things are once again accessible! I no longer have issues with incontinence. And of course there are many things I can do now I was restricted from doing at 316 lbs. That all being said do I miss some of my old lifestyle? I would be lying if I said no. Many times I have had the thought "man I would really like to just sit down and pig out". But I know I can't. It is usually in response to some emotional issue so I have to deal with it in another way. I probably think about food a LOT more now than I did before just because it is now so much more important to me. I think about the healthy foods I need, how I can be creative in preparation of them so not to get bored, what their nutritional content is etc. I also do long for foods I no longer can eat. Or should I say ought to eat. ( I can tolerate everything I have tried) It is a much bigger mental battle. Before you are overweight and unhappy with it. But I know I did not micromanage my eating, which is what helped me get obese to start with! Now my life revolves around food in many ways. I miss the freedom of eating with abandon I suppose. But I will never, ever miss being the size I was. Nothing about that body was good. It may be sagging more now, and the boobs may be smaller, but I can work with that. No way you can hide 316lbs! LOL

I sometimes miss the fact that I was able to have more distance from people. Today, they can get up really close; whereas before it wasn't possible.

Thanks for the feedback @@Roo101769!

You're right in the fact that I'm young and I haven't gotten to a size point in which you or others have suffered through and I am somewhat grateful for that. But I know if I allow myself to continue down the road I'm on I'll end up in the same boat, So I figure if I have the chance to change course now I might as well.

I can learn a lot from you and others who "Have been there done that" lol.

Absolutely change now. I was over 330 Lbs at my highest ever. I know for a fact that if I didn't start changing when I did I'd be one of those people showcased on my 600 Lb Life TV show. I have no regrets even admitting that because admitting you need help is always the first step in changing your life.

Best,

I don't miss it... but I did for awhile feel a bit exposed/naked/noticed without all the fat.

i love that article, because it is so honest. but i dont relate to any of it personally. there is not a single thing i miss about being fat. i was not one of those beautiful curvy fat women. i am short, with a small frame and so being fat just made me look like a troll. and more importantly, it made me feel horrible, sick and tired all the time. i dont think that is a typical reaction to losing half your body weight, though i do think some people can relate to one or two things on the list.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
