My nutritionist said to look for shakes with more than 10g of Protein, and less than 10g of carbs. Other than that they don't really care which ones. Hard part is finding one you like!

Mine NUT says 20-30 grams of Protein, with less than 7 grams of carbs and 3 grams of fat. Protein should also be whey. She suggested powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury to me, which is what I bought and it's ok.. I think Protein shakes are gonna be kinda hard to get down no matter what, at least for me. Premier Protein shakes from Wal-Mart are supposed to be good and easy to find, but I haven't tried them yet. If you're picky about taste/texture, a lot of the powders have single serving sizes that you can buy to try. Good luck finding one you like!

I used some Body Fortress (muscle building shakes) during my pre-op phase. I haven't tried them post-op yet. They have the necessary Protein and low sugar/carbs that you want. The only thing my NUT warned was to be careful of the extra things you're getting (creatine, taurine, etc) and be aware what you're putting into your body. The chocolate Peanut Butter is quite tasty though :)

You want whey isolate Proteins not body building Protein. You are not trying to bulk up you are trying to keep your Protein intake high. EAS is good already made. Less then 1 gram of sugar and yes you need some carbs in order for you body to function properly.

whey Protein isolate IS what body builders use, if they know what they're doing. Lifting weights tears apart muscle fibers and protein is needed to repair them. For WLS patients it's important to have protein for good health and to prevent muscle loss. Some body builders want to gain weight while increasing muscle size, and some want to lose fat while increasing muscle size. The protein used by the second type is also good for WLS patients, though I don't think they taste as good as those that were developed just for us. I don't like the flavor of my husband's protein. Most inexpensive Proteins are loaded w/sugars, fillers, and cheaper proteins that aren't absorbed as easily as isolate. Not good for ANYONE except the pockets of the people who make them. These are never used by educated body builders (like my husband). :-)
