Introducing myself, insurance submitted.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I've been lurking on the boards for 6 months now. I'm male, 46 years old, BMI 44. I've had a heart attack and bypass surgery, sleep apnea and a history of DVT's and PE's. I want to thank all the folks who have contributed here. I have found this site to be a treasure of information and I feel very well prepared for my WLS thanks to you.

I completed my 6 month medically supervised weight loss program earlier this month and my insurance was just submitted to Premera Blue Cross. I'm having gastric bypass and my surgeon Jeffery Hunter at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle.

I've spend a lot of time researching WLS and I feel like I know what's ahead of me. Right now I'm feeling a weird mix of excitement and nervousness.

Tony

Welcome Tony -- I'm preop, too and that nervousness and excitement is common (and shared by me). It's a big decision and you've been waiting a long time and now it's getting close!

Congrats and stay in touch -- you'll learn so much on these boards.

Super! Are you excited? Nervous? I would be but pretty soon you will be posting all your success. It's a life saving decision one with many benefits. I will follow your journey and cheer you on! Hope you enjoy your Memorial holiday weekend and I'm pretty sure there may be a bbq involved....lol (stick to the protein) :)

I'm am very excited. I also a little nervous about making changes to the way I eat for the rest of my life, but I just remind myself of the health consequences of not having WLS and I know I've made the right choice.

The six month medically supervised weight loss program was great. It is run by the bariatric surgery center of excellence at my hospital. It really gave me an opportunity to learn and practice all the new behaviors I'll need after the surgery (protein first, chewing my food, eating slowly, regular exercise etc).

Tony

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
