I had my sleep study done about a week ago. I had problems from day 1 with the clinic and they just didn't seem like they knew what they were doing. They were a brand new clinic, only had one tech, and kept trying to get me to meet with their doctor to see if I needed to do a study even though my doctor said it wasn't necessary and that I needed to do the study regardless.

They are now trying to get me to schedule an appointment with their doctor yet again to go over the results. I remember having my sleep study for my lap band years ago, and I never had to go back in and meet with anyone, they called and gave me the results and I came and picked up the machine.

I feel like this doctor is just trying to get appointment copays out of me, and her office is giving me the run around. I contacted my pcp and he is working on getting them to send the results directly to him, but I don't know how long that's going to take and I have my surgery scheduled soon.

So am I being irrational about not wanting to meet with this doctor? Also, the only times she is in the office to meet with patients in Mondays and Tuesday afternoons. Where the hell is she the rest of the week? What if I can't work my schedule around that? Ugh!

I don't know what to do, I just want to get the results and get my machine, which I'm sure I will get because I'm almost certain I have apnea.

Maybe this pre op diet is getting to me :-/

I have had so many appointments for so many different things and I just do not want to go to another friggen appointment to hear something she can tell me on the phone.

Thanks for listening to me vent! And any info you can give me on how things went when you got your sleep study would be really helpful.

Yeah, I think most specialists want you to come in so they can explain/interpret the results--- sleep study results aren't always crystal. I think the fastest way to get it without going in would be to ask your PCP to get it for you. Hopefully, the PCP has seen enough of them to let you know if there's a concern.

FYI - Also, there is another option other than a CPAP machine. There is a mouth device that makes your lower jaw jut out more than the upper jaw. This is done with micro turns over the space of several months (to avoid TMJ) and requires going back for them to check it, and maybe another sleep study to make sure it is working for you as much as hoped. Oh, and they last around 1 1/2 years. The # of visits may not be what you want though.

I scheduled the appointment to meet with the doc like they asked, then called once to reschedule, then finally canceled it. I'm a medical professional myself, and my patients do this to me sometimes too! I never intended to use the cpap anyway, since I was convinced that the weight loss would cure the apnea. I haven't had a follow up sleep study to confirm this, but I sure wake up much better rested these days. I actually WANT to get out of bed! Like a 5 year old on Christmas! Blessings on you!

So were you still able to have your surgery?

Hi ....I'm scheduled for June 4 for my sx and I have sleep apnea...I remember in college that I was a size 7 but had serious problems with being really tired in the afternoon...thought I was just tired because I was so busy ... Now I'm dealing with weight and my pcp sent me for a sleep study. Omg after I got used to using my machine, I realized what "normal" people feel like after a good nite of sleep. Made all the difference in the world. I now know I've had apnea even when I was thin. I see that u got a cpap when u got the lap band...did u stop using it?

Yes I did because the apnea went away when I lost the weight.

CPAP Treatment is a Doctor prescribed treatment, you have to be monitored by the Doctor not the tech. There are two types of Apnea ,Obstructive and Central and only Obstructive can improve or go in remission by weight loss. It is a serious condition, that can cause heart attack or strokes etc. You are depriving your brain from O2. Please follow up with your team and get the equipment you need at least for now. You usually rent the equipment at first anyway. I have been on CPAP 15 years and now on my third machine, it saved my life.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
