Hunger Pains Normal/Abnormal

Recommended Posts

So at my last fill appointment my doctor opted to not give me a fill. He said my weight loss was going very well, and I may be in the green zone without any fills. The nurse however, told me I just may be swollen a little more than normal and to let her know if I started getting hungry. Well I don't know if its my head playing games or what, but I started Friday becoming very hungry, but at odd times. Also, I am still hungry after my 5oz of food and yes I am going my Protein first and minimizing carbs and whatnot. I have been able to subdue this with eating a pickle, a cup vegetables, or even a cup of air popped popcorn without anything on it. Weight wise I am still going down but at a slower rate than in the beginning.

The other side of this is at 400 lbs I hurt my back pretty bad. I had been in pain everyday day of my life until just recently. When I hit 323 I felt like I was able to get up and down easier and since then I have been extremely active. I went from sitting and doing next to nothing everyday to being active 406 hours a day. Not so much exercising, but going outdoors and doing things I had not done in a long time like, gardening, mowing, and house projects. (has not mowed my lawn in over a year) I do work out with strength training 2 days a week, go see a personal trainer once a week, and do cardio every day now. My schedule also impacts my diet to as I work 330 to midnight at home sitting for 8 hours. I had got int he habit of eating after work along with my three meals a day before surgery and it is a fight every night lately. My wife thinks I should listen to my body and eat if I need to since I am burning so many calories. My sugar has been lower than it has ever been and the doctor took me off all my diabetes meds 2 weeks ago. I find myself dropping out in the morning and sometimes late at night.

Has anyone else had these issues? How did you cope with them? Do I need a fill or is this just head games? Thank you for your responses!

@@MagillaDaLlama, I just want to say that your post is very inspiring. I need to stop making exercise excuses and stick to a daily exercise plan. Thanks for posting this!

You should only eat if you're hungry and having a well adjusted band can help eliminate much of the hunger. As long as you aren't having stuck issues I would opt for a fill. And I'd keep going back till you can go 4 hours without being hungry. I wouldn't be real aggressive with fills amounts though. It's safer to sneak up on the green zone than to just jump right in with both feet and not have developed the eating skills you'll need once your band is working optimally.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
