Dr. Champion, and pregnancy

Recommended Posts

Hi! I live in Georgia and have been referred by a friend to Dr. Champion. I talked to his office, and she told me that my insurance, BCBS of Illinois will cover the surgery, but I have to go through six months of a diet plan recorded by my doctor. So I am seeing my doctor tomorrow to start the six months. I hate that I have to wait that long, but maybe it is a good thing that I will have that long to really think about it and research. Honestly, I can't believe I am actually considering this. I never thought I would volunteer for any type of surgery, but I have to do something while I am young before I end up really bad off.

The thing is, my husband and I really want to have a baby. We would be trying now if it weren't for my resent decision to try the lap band. Dr. Champion says that I have to wait 18 months after the surgery before trying. This is okay with my husband and I, but deep down I still wonder if I should have a baby first and then have the surgery. Has anyone out there experienced the same dilemma, or does anyone have advice about pregnancy and lap band in general?

Also, has anyone had Dr. Champion or heard anything about him? For some reason there are no patient posts on his website forum.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
