I researched the Water issue post-op throughout the last few weeks. I have a few concerns.

Since the stomach is only at 20% and the amount of liquid or food is from 2 to 4% at any given serving. How does one maintain a healthy level of Water throughout the day? The only thing I could come up with is that I need to sip water all throughout the day. Maybe ice chips? Suggestions.....

Ok here is one question for the group:

The role of Fiber after the surgery. I respect the use of Fiber since I have been concentrating on my changes with my food intake. I always was a "regular" type of person with no problems going to the bathroom a few times a day. I do not want to loose that, especially while I am losing weight. Since there is a limitation of the space I will have after surgery and how fiber expands. Any suggestions on fiber? I see wafers and fiber pills, but I think that is a bit much in the beginning. Maybe Metamucil?

Fiber ... great question. I would be more concerned about fluids at first, then Protein. You won't be able to get fiber in at the time. Remember your body is going thru a lot of changes. Be patient with it. It may reset its' own schedule. I would suggest that you talk to your doctor but maybe a month or so out you can start looking at fiber supplements like Metamucil.

You do realize that going 2 to 3 times a week can be normal for some, and that is ok? Having a BM every day is not required. Its an old wives tale. If you don't get enough Water, you'll have problems any way.

Getting closer to the surgery date and I did have a few more questions for the board. Did anyone have their cholesterol level go higher or lower since the surgery. I am asking because I do not have a gallbladder and currently my cholesterol level is high.

My cholesterol level was somewhat high because my *HDL* was high. The lowest I had it was 55 and usually was in the 80's to 90 BEFORE the surgery.

After surgery it has been insane. I've had it go to *127*. That's the *HDL*.

The only times the LDL goes up is when the malnutrition is really bad.

That being said, my full blood sister had HDL in the 40's, and started losing weight and eating healthy. It went into the 30's. Then this past few months, to the 20's. She's lost weight and kept it off, drinking healthier and exercising. She has a coach.

Go figure.

Thanks! That helps out to understand the changes the body will go through after surgery. Its like with time the numbers will balance out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
