So THAT'S what dumping is?!

Recommended Posts

OMG! 2 1/2 years out and experienced my first episode of dumping and NEVER want to experience that again!

Went to my favorite frozen yogurt place. They have fat free/sugar free soft frozen yogurt that they can make in any of 48 flavors!

So I ordered my usual small dish. She made it about twice the size!!

Well, the fat kid in me, kept eating until it was gone

about 30 minutes later, some stomach cramps. I thought maybe it was gas or I needed to poo.

20 minutes later, I KNEW I had to poo. Sitting there, things started to go gray, I was soaked in sweat AND freezing. I put my head down and must have passed out. I woke, curled up on the floor. Got up, sat back down, then went to bed 2 1/2 hours earlier than my normal, I was exhausted.

I think the stomach cramps must have triggered a vaso-vagal attack, as it was the exact same symptoms that I get during those!

NEVER AGAIN!! Small means SMALL!! Even if I have to ask her to take out the extra! Don't know if she thought she was being nice or what.

Your fortunate..My first experience with ice cream will be my last. At least you know how much you can tolerate before you get ill. you'll never forget that. That is so scary passing out in a random toilet stall. How horrible for you hun! yikes!

These episodes sound like what I experience when a little bit of gluten gets in me. Swearing to God I WILL NEVER EAT CROSS-CONTAMINATED food AGAIN! Cramps like the world is coming to an end, sweating, shaking, hot, cold, hot, cold followed by profound fatigue and dehydration. Lotsa fun. You ladies have convinced me no froyo or ice cream will ever be worth it!

Some of these symptoms should like what I have been experiencing pretty regularly but I don't think it's dumping. I have always had some IBS issues, but lately they are more and more frequent and I can't always pinpoint what causes the episodes. It usually hits me within 30 minutes of eating. Starts with severe cramping like gas that is trapped in my abdomen and I know I have to find a bathroom. Then I'm usually there for 20 minutes of cramping, and well, you know.... then it passes and I'm okay. I don't usually get the sweating or chills, and I don't pass out. It's almost a daily occurrence at this point, and it's very inconvenient, uncomfortable, and concerning. I've had this happen after eating ice cream, but also after eating a salad, so I really don't know what to do.

Wow, THAT sucks!! Could it be that you are eating too much, too fast, fatty Salad Dressing or drinking too close to eating?? Hope you figure out why, so it doesn't happen so often, or at all. What does your dr. say?

I think the only reason I passed out was because it triggered a vaso-vagal attack.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
