Help! 6 days out and already a nervous wreck!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone ! Happy Monday! I have a slight problem. Well actually, problem(s)! I'm 6 days out, I've lost 15 pounds (which is awesome) and I've been doing well with my liquid diet but I have so much going on! I have a very sensitive body so.....

1) the Protein Shakes make me feel AWFUL .,, from the taste, smell, and the nausea... Just awful! I can't tolerate them!

2) my Vitamins are chewable and make me nauseous as well. I was forced to go to GNC to purchase vitamins that I could just swallow rather than chew.... Is that horrible?

3) I went to class today and went too long without Water and I felt awful! I saw a nearby mcdonalds and got a cup of water through the drive thru and TOTALLY forgot about the no straw rule 1 minute into drinking my water!!!!! I have so much indigestion, hiccups, and gas.... Has anyone experienced this? If so, how long will it last?

4) I've been walking for 20-30 minutes per day.... Which is the bare minimum (in my opinion) -- should I be doing more?

Please help!?

You are sooooo new that all of this is normal. It will all get better. You have barely cleared the anesthesia chemicals from your body at a week. Narcotics make me sick and it took days to get over the nausea. I can drink with a straw at 8 weeks but at 1 week, just SIP. Plan ahead for everything the first month. I had zero energy for a month and bouts of nausea for at least 10 days. Try Flintstones Vitamins. Very easy to chew. I take 2 a day. Make sure your doctor knows you're swallowing pills. Most don't allow but some do. Hang in there. You'll likely feel better soon.

I've been having pretty much every issue you've been having! Just thinking about the smell of a Protein shake.. ughhh. And those Vitamins, too. I think they get bigger as you chew them! I've been doing better with my Water, but it's still a struggle to remember that you hafta constantly be drinking.. of course, you can't drink too much in a certain time frame either. And no straws!? It's just a huge adjustment, I think.

chewable or liquid vitamins are suggested because they're so easily absorbed. They don't have to sit in your stomach to be digested like the pills do. A sleeved stomach empties a little more quickly, so there's not as much time for the Vitamins to be digested properly.. because of that, you end up not getting the full benefit from them. You can try breaking the pills in half and taking them at different times during the day, that way you don't have to digest as much at one time. I think that might help, at least from an absorption standpoint. If you absolutely can't do any of the chewable vitamins, some vitamins are better than no vitamins for sure.

As far as exercise goes, 30 minutes most days is a good start. You can always add to that later, but it's definitely something that's up to you.. My goal is to kinda start out slow and build up over time. I know I could do more now, and I'd lose more if I did. But I want exercise to be something that becomes part of my routine, something that I enjoy. I think if I try to do too much right at the start, I'm just gonna.. not want to do it ever. That was at least what happened to me pre-sleeve anyway..

Thanks soooo much for your help guys!!! I really appreciate it! I'm over here constantly worried about what to do, when to do it, if I'm doing things correctly, and so much more! So thanks again!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
