Anyone else with me?

I'm still in the early stages, as I still have 5 more PCP visits as well as my preop testing, but things will definitely start accelerating next week as those tests begin.

I'm excited about what lies ahead, but a little nervous as well. My BMI is flirting with 40, and I do have comorbidities, but I'm afraid of insurance rejection. Still, though, I'm going to push forward and see what happens. I have big plans for myself post-surgery and can't wait to see where I am a year from now!

I am new to the app and the forum. I have been researching GB surgery so I made an appt with my doc and have a surgeon in mind. Keep the faith that yours will be approved! I as 38 (39 on June 7th, my BMI is 52%. I have been searching for a place to chat with people with similar issues as mine. I don't want to turn 40 and feel like this, that is for sure. That's all for now, take care.

I'm 40 and my BMI is 40 lol in about 242 lbs and I need a change in my life, I can never keep the weight off! I'm going for Surgery in Nov 2014

Yeah my BMI fluctuates between 39-42. Never consistent. But I've give up on trying to lose weight alone. It never lasts. And my personal opinion on your choice of band or sleeve is sleeve. I don't like the idea of the band.....seems like too much trouble!

I agree about the sleeve and I haven't went to the seminar yet but I have a important question.. not sure who I can ask but are you able to live a long normal life missing a large portion of your stomach ???

Anyone prob getting November surgery? I'm trying to decide still between band and sleeve and leaning towards sleeve! I'm scared to permanently remove part of my body and wonder in the long run if it might be a problem. BASICALLY CAN YOU LIVE TO A RIPE OLD AGE WITH 80 % of your Tummy gone??

Still on track! I go tomorrow for my 2nd PCP visit then go on the 26th for a sleep study (THAT should be interesting!) and go the 27th for a hidascan, chest X-ray, and EKG.

I've also still got to schedule a psych visit, nutrition visit, and gastroenterologist visit. Definitely excited, but getting nervous too. Jeez!

1cute, you need to ask your surgeon those questions. I still say sleeve over band. Better results and and not as much trouble. The band required all those adjustments.

Hi Daron,

I had my 2nd pop visit today too!! My health is perfect I just need to lose weight. I'm 242 lbs at 5 foot 2 and I have a baby I run after and I'm tired of being tired! My seminar is next Thursday and my doc told me today she rather I don't get the band and go for sleeve and that's what I am doing! Not because of her but because of all the problems I'm reading about! I met a girl today at the doc who has the band and hates it she told me DO NOT GET THE BAND lol and she is getting sleeve soon! I need a change in my life, for 25 years I'm overweight and I'm done. I'm willing to give things up and eat right and this is the time! Let me know how your doing! I meet with my surgeon after the seminar then make appointments from there I was told.. sleep study!? I hope I don't have to do that lol

Glad you got the answers you were looking! I'm fairly sure you'll have to have a sleep study, too. Sleep apnea is one of the comorbidities they look for in the pre surgery process and a sleep study is how they determine that. I'm excited about having mine......just another hurdle down. Only 4 more visits with my PCP!

Best of luck on your journey, lucky! Mine is going by fairly quick. Still have a few appointments to finish between now and August and then the remainder of my PCP visits. Getting a little anxious about the insurance approval part, though, lol.

Good luck to all of you. I will finish my PCP visits mid October and I am really hoping for mid November surgery.

Daron I think most people get a little stressed/worried about the ins co. As long as we meet all the requirements and complete all their hoop jumping we should be good :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
