I had pain in that same area. Walking helps a lot. To sleep, I had a backrest propped behind me so I was elevated a bit, and put a heating pad (on low) on top of the area that hurt. Gas X strips also help to some degree. If you still have pain meds, take one before bed. That would get me thru til about 4 am and then the pain would wake me up. Walking around a sitting up a bit would help.

I hated that abdominal gas because it was a good week or 10 days before I could lay on my side, which is how I prefer to sleep.< /p>

Ok...here's my suggestions for gas pains, takem' or leavem'....

1)I took a LOT of Gas X as well as poking a hole in a Mylanta (for gas) gelcap and putting in my liquid drink.

2)Walk, walk, and more walk.....

3)I slept on my sides. This is advice I was given from a nurse friend of mine that said it would help the bubbles move through (or toward) the intestines and thus be expelled.

Now....about 5 days after surgery, the porceline god and I were buddies for about 20+ mins. and since...nary a gas pain.

As for the left shoulder pain....port influenced I'm afraid. I remember reading a post on here mentioning that the pain in the shoulder could be an aggrivated nerve near the port radiating up to the shoulder. I have since found this to be true. When my port is achy or has been strained a bit, my left shoulder hurts. If I turn wrong in bed....thus pulling things, THEN...the shoulder.

Best of luck, we're all in this together. Hope it helps! :)

I suppose since I have been laying in the recliner for a couple days the gas migrated toward the top of my stomach. I will try what was suggested. I am pretty uncomfortable.

i have been using the gas x for gas. Trying to walk which helps but what has upset me most is that I am 3 lbs heavier then preop. Have had about 300 caleries since thursday. Some one please tell me its the fluids I got in the hospital and the gas. I had an overnight stay and was hooked up to IV until hour before discharge. I feel bloated everywhere. Will that go away in a day then I will see weight loss start.

Collector, my surgeon told me that it's common to retain IV fluids in your system for up to a month. He said people who are on IVs for 3-4 days can retain up to 20 lbs. So take heart!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
