hopeful2 be slim 121 Posted May 19, 2014 (edited) I cannot walk much due to severe arthritis. So I started weights. Yesterday I did weights many times during the day. I was happy with my exercise, hoping the body will respond. But no today my weight is up by half kg. How depressing is that... why do we gain weight after doing almost 4 lbs weights almost 400 times?? I am really sad. Was so hoping to break the 1 month stall. Edited May 19, 2014 by hopeful2 be slim
Nicolanz 1,484 Posted May 19, 2014 Step away from the scale......get healthy......forget about a number that doesn't mean much. When you begin working out or upping the intensity, your body retains Water. Keep doing what you're doing and don't weigh yourself for 3 weeks. See what happens. Good luck! 1 hopeful2 be slim reacted to this

McButterpants 2,846 Posted May 19, 2014 Your body probably held on to some Water because of your weight training - your muscles will need the Water to recover. It's totally normal. The thing that has saved me is taking my measurements along the way...I measure my neck, upper arm, forearm, chest, waist, hips, thigh and calf. For the last month I did more weight training than previous months and I showed no loss on the scale, however I lost almost 5 inches in that same period. While I was disappointed I didn't lose pounds according to the scale, it was nice to know I was getting smaller! Best of luck to you. 1 hopeful2 be slim reacted to this
Savedbygrace22 28 Posted May 20, 2014 Hopeful to be slim, You are gaining muscle. Muscle weighs heavier than fat. You need to do some of this because muscle burns fat. So don't be surprised after you have done strength training that the numbers are higher. It will come right off later as your exercise ended and your body continue to burn calories. It's a good thing. Good for you! 1 hopeful2 be slim reacted to this
